turn up the heat

Me-ow-my-oh!

Me-usings and Me-emories

31 August 2013 -  My internal body temperature is some three degrees warmer than my peeps', which explains our different interpretations of "comfortable".  Even our hottest day is okay by me, underscoring that I am a Florida cat, born and raised.  Inside our chilly house I have been forced to place my black coat in a pool of sunshine.

Me-ow-my-oh!

Me-usings and Me-emories

30 August 2013 -  I'm not one to rock the boat, "purr and let purr" are words to live by.  Besides I'm fairly certain that boats sit in water, and with the exception of drinking, I have no use for water.  Baths are for the less fastidious, and swimming is just an opportunity for sharks.  I prefer to keep my dainty toes on dry land...although who knows where I was carried while stuffed in the sack?

furstration

Me-ow-my-oh!

Me-usings and Me-emories

29 August 2013 -  Ever think about where the day has gone?  A good bit of my waking time (okay, hold that snicker) is spent waiting...waiting for the peeps to put kibbles in my bowl, waiting for the peeps to open the back door, waiting for the peeps to give me yogurt.  All of this nonsense could be made to disappear if I had my own personal attendant...or if I had opposable thumbs.  Is it too early to start a Christmas list?

welcome home

Me-ow-my-oh!

Me-usings and Me-emories

28 August 2013 - We cats are known to be solitary creatures, keeping our own company, heeding our own counsel.  Yet we do bring warmth to a hearth, and immeasurable well-being to the family that we choose.  This domestic arrangement does encroach a bit on our independence, but to bring happiness to my peeps is IMO a reasonable trade-off.

Me-ow-my-oh!

Me-usings and Me-emories

27 August 2013 - My peeps naively think that I am the only one to use the cat doors.  They lock up and turn out the lights, disappearing into a sound sleep.  But I am the guardian of the portal, the faithful defender of the home, whose presence in the dead of the night keeps the nocturnal creepers out there.  "When things go bump, I jump."  Yes, I need no thanks for what I do.

Me-ow-my-oh!

Me-usings and Me-emories

26 August 2013 -  I try not to take it personally, but on top of the dryer is where my peeps feed me.  Above the fray is admittedly better than among the fray, but the laundry room?  I persist in showing up at their breakfast, lunch, and dinner table, but so far no one has pulled out a chair for me.

Me-usings and Me-emories

25 August 2013 - I'm a sucker for running water...literally.  Although a bowl of the wet stuff is provided, I prefer fresh from the tap.  Numerous lessons were required before my peeps began to grasp the concept (fortunately I have the patience of Job), but now only the occasional refresher course is needed.  I was relieved (it IS you) and pleased (good girl) when my recently returned peep remembered her cues.

Me-ow-my-oh!

Me-usings and Me-emories

24 August 2013 - Routine has claimed me once again:  a slow rise (those peeps are such slugs-a-bed), a bit of breakfast, the morning commute (why is the office at the top of twenty steps?), and the clock-in.  You may think that "consultant" is a synonym for "unemployed", but not in this household.  Here, we meow for our supper.

Me-usings and Me-emories

23 August 2013 - Adaptation is the key to a species' survival.  When that species is in the middle of the food chain, it must have skills to both provide it food and keep it from being food.  So I have trained my peeps to coax this indoor tree, pictured at right, to extend its branches, allowing me to scale up and away from things that threaten.  There I make a cozy nest, safe from that dark rumbling scavenger that appears periodically, sniffing beneath furniture and poking its snout into dusty corners.

Me-ow-my-oh!

Me-usings and Me-emories

22 August 2013 - Well, finally I have shed a load of worry (as well as all that new Nova Scotia fur):  one of my peeps that wandered off weeks ago has found her way back home.  A peep's sense of smell is so underdeveloped that I am not surprised that it took her so long to locate me.  That the other peep crammed me into a sack and dragged me around the planet for two days did not make her task any easier.  Do you think that he was trying to throw her off our scent?
