31 May 2025 - My shadow and my reflection and I settled in for a snooze while my two peeps were engrossed in the large black box.  No cats figured into the storyline and, hard to believe, it was too warm for much lap time, so I claimed a nearby spot... where I could keep one eye on them, lest they wander off again.  Although I am solitary by nature, it is quite stressful (not to mention lonely) to be the only one knocking around our domicile... although there was been more than enough strange (as in done by strangers) knocking beyond the walls.

30 May 2025 - You might not suspect it, but this picture is one of bravery.  I may look totally relaxed, comfortable in my skin, but behind me, at the photograph's edge, is my enemy, uncaged but for the moment quiet.  Nothing is more worrisome than a quiet enemy, yet the shorter peep doesn't seem disturbed by its presence... so for the moment I'll pretend that nothing is amiss.  However at the first heavy exhalation I will disappear so quickly that you'll wonder if in fact I was ever there,  lying a few feet away from "it".  Postscript:  what was I thinking??

29 May 2025 - I know that we all like to think that we control, if not our destiny, then certainly our daily trajectory.  But truly such thoughts are just to lessen our anxiety that we are a small boat in rough seas.  So here I am, trying to anchor the shorter peep in place, not wishing to lose sight of either peep so soon after their return.  If my vote had any weight, then we would all stay put in this domicile, aware but untroubled by the chaos that swirls outside the walls.  I will continue to beseech Bastet for the quiet passage of our lives (however I won't be surprised if my request isn't heard).

28 May 2025 - They're back!  With no advance warning (and no explanation), my two noisily made an entrance into the house last night.  My first instinct was to think intruder, as there has been a series of upsetting appearances of strangers in our domicile... and "intruder" translates into "danger", and naturally I hid.  But then vocalizations began to sound familiar and I dared to creep out and check.  They have returned with numerous strange odors upon their persons, but through vigorous and conscientious head rubs I am slowly reclaiming my two as mine alone.

6 May 2025 - The domicile's routine is off, and I don't just mean the noisy strangers stomping on our roof.  My two peeps have been doing atypical things, and as a creature who loves his routine I notice these changes.  So far my dreaded bag hasn't made an appearance, but maybe its remaining hidden is part of the plan to keep me unawares.  However I obviously know something is afoot.  Part of me sincerely hopes that it doesn't involve me, and part of me doesn't want to be the one left behind.  I can only worry....

5 May 2025 - I am grateful for these (mostly) clear portals as I can check our surroundings, ascertain the level of interloper threat, and also just enjoy the lush view.  But they also prevent my chasing away a ne'er-do-well:  I can lunge at it, glare until my eyeballs are sore, but a swipe of my paw is sometimes needed to get my point across... and is impossible.  Nevertheless I do what I can, and limit my worrying to issues that I can do something about.

4 May 2025 - Surveillance often requires repeatedly circling the thing being assessed.  It isn't really a matter of summing courage, but determining the existence (and magnitude) of the problem, the level of danger, ranking risk to gain.  And is the enticement to approach closer just a desire on my part or a deviously laid trap?  Contrary to popularly held beliefs about my species, we cats can make up our minds... eventually.  To jump to the end of the story, I did finally decide that the shorter peep's lap was unoccupied and too inviting to pass up.

3 May 2025 - What day of the week is it?  And do I have better places to be than the office??  Actually not, the shorter peep is here and I need to sweep the area for interlopers.  Today is quiet enough that I can actually hear my thoughts, and my plan is to wind my way down the levels, pushing the ne'er-do-wells ahead of me.  So far I don't have any critters in my herd, but that could change.  It is possible that two very noisy days, with lots of strangers tromping around our perimeter, drove the invaders back into the woods... or so I can hope.

2 May 2025 - It is a wonder that I don't have a headache:  the past two days have been extremely stressful, with incessant noise of an assault that threatened to breach our domicile's perimeter.  My peeps appear jumpy as well, pacing from portal to portal.  We are all helpless in bettering the situation, and must do what we can to tune out the loud banging, to endure until it stops... and in fact as Mr. Sol waned, quiet once again returned.  Silence never sounded so good.

1 May 2025 - I think my cover is blown!  But it's just the shorter peep, so the consequences are miniscule.  Besides I have other hiding spots,... I'll have to wait until she is not watching.  Sometimes, after I've been "seen", she will fling a toy in my direction, maybe jiggle it across the carpet, and toss it again.  If the throw is such that I can reach it with a paw, I'll try to catch it, drag it closer, dare her to snatch it away.  These shenanigans are fun for a short while, and then both of us have had our fill and shift the knob back to "serious".
