a slight chance

Me-ow-my-oh!

Me-usings and Me-emories

30 November 2015 - Having once been worshipped, we present-day cats are constantly handed reminders how far we have fallen.  First there is our diminuitive place in the world:  we may appear as giants to meeps, but such a low-life comparison hardly elevates the self-esteem.  Then there is our lopsided relationship with peeps:  that I still must request and remind and cajole them, after more than a decade, into doing my bidding is an irritant to which I'll never become inured.  Humility is a too-small jacket that best suits those of humble birth.

Me-ow-my-oh!

Me-usings and Me-emories

29 November 2015 - No, I am not watching for Santa.  We cats don't have a refined sense of time, but I can deduce from the lack of fever pitch that he isn't due to arrive for a while.  Rather, I am surveying my kingdom.  Weather permitting, I saunter onto the porch each morning and check our perimeter.  At this hour of the day there is usually bird activity, and sometimes only that.  After gauging the alert level, I may then take a brief stroll in the yard.  I don't like to leave my peeps for too long...they worry.

28 November 2015 - Here is proof that I brighten up a room...and evidence for my peeps that I wear a halo (as if there was any doubt).  If I could concentrate this ability to the tip of my nose, I could vie for Rudolph's job.  However my skill set doesn't include working well with others. So I will have to be content basking in the warmth of my own glow.  I can never remember the difference between cherubim and seraphim, but I believe that the former are the chubby variety.

Me-usings and Me-emories

27 November 2015 - We are a one-holiday-at-a-time family.  Now that the Thanksgiving dishes have been washed, we can turn our attention to Christmas and all its lovely mayhem.  From the smell of it, this box isn't harboring catnip, but I have done my utmost, just in case I do wish to claim the contents, to mark it as mine.  My favorite part of the season is the decorations, especially the dangly ones.  I am not deterred by any "Santa's watching" claims.

Me-usings and Me-emories

26 November 2015 - I hadn't seen the annoying interloper for over a week... and a nice seven days they were.  So of course he would show up on the day you're supposed to share food with one another and feel gratitude.  The emotions I am experiencing now are not charitable... he's lucky that I remain on this side of the door.  But my shorter peep has taken him a bowl of my kibble, without my blessing. She suffers from a too soft heart.   I will give thanks once I see his hind quarters leaving my porch.    What a turkey!

Me-ow-my-oh!

Me-usings and Me-emories

24 November 2015 - My tabby cousins are so much better at camouflage than I.  It takes a moonless night or heavy shadows for me to be unobserved... except I am in the picture to the right.  Look closely.  Who would have thought that I could disappear in a space of dark greens, behind a potted plant?  It is very exciting to be stealthy, to be invisible. This adrenaline rush must be one of the allures of cat burglary!

Me-usings and Me-emories

23 November 2015 - If you ever needed an excuse to snuggle, this morning provided the reason.  Technically one can't freeze at 45 degrees, the temperature today at sunrise, but one can certainly succumb to hypothermia.  I am dependent upon the peeps to turn on the heat, but instead they are wearing layers.  Unfortunately for me I can't at a finger snap don my winter coat...and I'd rather die than be seen in one of those ridiculous pet sweaters.

Me-usings and Me-emories

22 November 2015 - Waiting is very difficult for us cats.  When the time between a peep's promise and the actual delivery stretches beyond a few minutes, I find it difficult to sit on my impatience.  We all have expectations, and sometimes put our lives on hold waiting for someone to answer.  I should just disconnect myself from the process and hang up my hopes.  But it would be satisfying, on several levels, to reach out and swat someone.

Me-ow-my-oh!

Me-usings and Me-emories

21 November 2015 - Who is that black lump in the bed?  I'm not putting you on the spot:  it's a rhetorical question.  I would comment how wonderful it is to nap in the shifting grays of daybreak, but the window view suggests that the sun has been up a while.  It isn't a competition.  I am stirring well before dawn, much to the shorter peep's dismay, and often follow breakfast with sleep.  Hey, it works (figuratively speaking) for me.

20 November 2015 - Twelve inches make a foot,...except in my case...and four feet make a quadruped.  I wouldn't use the term "dainty" to describe one of my paws, but each is an exceptional design, providing stealth and speed and defense/offense.  I groom my feet regularly, being especially particular about the nails.  Routine maintenance is the key to long trouble-free service.  Who knows what life will throw in your path...a pedicure  is a good investment.

Me-ow-my-oh!

Me-usings and Me-emories

19 November 2015 - Sometimes it takes a picture to point out one's mannerisms.  Yesterday's pose, the one where I am on the job, is identical to today's, where I am just hanging out.  But what else am I supposed to do with my front feet on a ledge?  My other go-to position is with them tucked underneath by body... but that is more of a cool-weather stance.  I hope that I can purge this thought from my head; otherwise I will be self-conscious every time I plop down... which rather defeats the entire point of plopping down.

Me-ow-my-oh!

Me-usings and Me-emories

18 November 2015 - I don't recall applying for the job of office manager, but the responsibilities certainly do suit me.  I prefer motivating my peeps through praise and recognition of a job well done.  I personally do not respond well to negativity, and do not wish to be the giver nor the receiver of a heavy hand.  Ours is a laid-back workplace, where everyday is casual Friday.  I am delighted when they eat in:  more gets done, and sometimes I get invited to join them.

17 November 2015 - I am not a fussy eater.  Since arriving at this domicile, I have enjoyed some variety of the same brand kibble...and have no complaints nor desire to revise the menu.  I admit to sneering at the Fancy Feast commercials...Persians are such snobs.  As you can see I do not dine from a cut-glass bowl.  The bag's claim of "healthy adult" is sufficient privilege for this tuxedo.  The only thing that bothers me at mealtime is "shouldn't it be IAM?"
