many-sided

31 Jan 2025 - Sometimes it is necessary for me to go undercover in order to roust the interlopers... or maybe I'm just soaking up all that sunshine.  Keep in mind that both possibilities can coexist (am I lucky, or what?).  From this portal I can watch what visits the feeder, and it isn't just beeps that favor the seeds.  Squeeps regularly come by, searching the grass for whatever has fallen to the ground.  And thanks to my keen night vision I have seen creatures larger than I saunter by,  creatures that are unusual to see during the day that creep out when hidden by darkness (but not from me).

30 Jan 2025 - You can see why I favor this particular spot... although now that the shorter peep has shared it with you, it isn't much of a secret.  From this vantage I can keep an eye on the interlopers while Mr. Sol keeps his eye on me, a satisfying arrangement.  I won't deny that, tucked behind pillows, occasionally I doze off.  But we cats need our naps, to balance those moments of intense energy burns.  No snickering please, on a short track I can outrun my peeps (and possibly you), which is all that is necessary to survive a predator attack.

29 Jan 2025 - Do you see the cat out the portal?  Were I still a kitten, I might be fooled into believing a look-alike interloper was peering into our domicile, and pick a fight.  But that would be energy wasted on an appurrition.  I can't explain why this ghostly image appears, but it is locked into my every movement:  I turn my head, it does likewise.  I won't allow the mystery to spoil this generous pool of sunshine... I'll just curl up in the warmth, facing another direction.

28 Jan 2025 - Even with frequent lickings, my coat is looking very fly-away.  I'm not sure that there is anything further I can do (ixnay on the pomade) except wish for more humidity in our domicile.  I swear that I'm not imagining things, but occasionally I feel a tiny crackle beneath my paws.  It isn't of a magnitude to send me scurrying under the bed, but still I wonder.  I've ruled out tiny crunchy interlopers, and that exhausts my imagination.  Like my wild fur, it may be something that I will have to live with.

27 Jan 2025 - My job description is appropriately vague, because every day is different with its own challenges and surprises... which is why I wake up, ready to begin my patrol.  The domicile's portals are a no-brainer point of entry, so naturally they must be checked out... and sometimes what I find is entertaining, e.g., a small angry beep attacking the glass, and other times is more physically engaging... such as this full body stretch (who would suspect I am so tall?!)

26 Jan 2025 - Even after a  non-strenuous day, Mr. Sol retires, and we likewise slow our pace.  My peeps often meet here, either to huddle over a board (well, they seem to enjoy it) or to gaze at colorful blobs on the large black screen.  Neither activity particularly interests me, but one of the nice side effects is the creation of a lap!  So unless I have more pressing issues (a nocturnal interloper to investigate, perhaps), I join them.  Three isn't a crowd when you're my size, and on a chilly evening you can't beat the shared heat.

25 Jan 2025 - Peep meal time is a curious event.  Whereas I eat my portion and that is that, my two linger over their plates, conversing about nonessential matters.  Maybe my routine would be different if there were a second cat in the house, but my first thought is that I would just eat that much faster.  Naturally I am curious what interests them so, always wondering if I am the topic of their table talk (and does it involve more kibble).  But setting me aside (hardly a natural response for cats), I am trying to better grasp what motivates/inspires the peep species.

24 Jan 2025 - If I look a tad forlorn, that would be accurate.  Still not permitted onto my personal formerly-screened porch and very frustrated with Mr. Sol's under-performance, I am feeling very harrumph.  My mood would be even fouler, were it not for treats and a peep lap.  But I have lived through equally unpleasant times in the past, so I remind myself that nothing is permanent... but this frigid spell would be slightly more tolerable if I knew when it would go away.

23 Jan 2025 - If only we felines had an opposable thumb, we could truly be independent.  But the reality is that a house cat needs a peep to handle the acquisition and presentation of his kibble.  I'm not implying that my only reason for sticking close to the peeps is the meal ticket (they also provide the very desirable lap), yet I do depend upon them for my sustenance.  Sometimes I desire a post-meal treat, and if I ask nicely (i.e., no threatening gesture from talons or teeth), a few yummies appear in my dish.  All in all it is a sweet arrangement that admittedly dashes any attempt at aloofness.

22 Jan 2025 - At last my order arrived!  At moments like this I am especially glad that I'm the one and only household cat:  my morning would be marred if I were shoved aside by a larger example of me.  With the exception of a soft, off-white creamy substance that both I and the taller peep favor, we have mutually exclusive food preferences... which means that I can eat in contentment, knowing that no one is sneaking up from behind to steal my kibble... my picture, yes, my kibble, no.

21 Jan 2025 - The service at this restaurant can be very slow... although the wait staff are well-intentioned.  The shorter peep and I awake hungry, but sometimes I have to prod her to leave the warm bed.  I understand her reluctance, especially on gray, chilly mornings.  But I have found that breakfast for two is a good way to begin the day, so I continue to insist until she slides her feet to the floor.  Then my patience is further tried as she slowly meanders, often two steps forward, one step into another room, to the place where food happens.

20 Jan 2025 - Although today's thoughts could be summarized by one long grouse, I will spare you my mutterings.  I do hope that you are warmer than I, although as long as my peep lap stays put, life is tolerable.  Mr. Sol has taken another sick day, so there are no pools of sunshine to float in.  Outside our domicile I can hear the banters of big, black beeps... something has caught their attention and a murder has been summoned... "bring on the heat" is my translation.

19 Jan 2025 - My two disappeared without forewarning (well, I sorta knew something was up), and now they are back and acting as if life is normal.  Perhaps they are unaware that in their absence a strange peep entered our domicile.  I surreptitiously observed the activity, and each time, after the alien left, I found saucers of food!  Dare I eat it?  Since I was hungry, I did... after giving it a serious sniff for anything odd.  And my nose had to verify that my two were bona fide, and not nefarious pod peeps.  I am very happy to say that they appear to be mine, and a comfy lap is once again available.
