making the motion

Me-ow-my-oh!

Me-usings and Me-emories

26 September 2015 - My suggestions to the peeps (and to the world, for that matter) typically fall on deaf ears.  I am aware of public construction where the sidewalks are laid after myriads of trodding feet have shown where these sidewalks should go.  So my habits indicate that there really ought to be a cat door here at this window.  I have made my request multiple times, but my peeps insist that I use the entry fifteen feet away...a spot of their choosing, I might add.  There can be a lot of danger lurking between here and there.

Me-usings and Me-emories

25 September 2015 - The shorter peep is playing with my mind.  She is fully aware that by opening the door, she will pique my curiosity.  Why she wants to entice me to go outside also arouses my need to know.  So here I am, vacillating between "do I?" or "don't I?".  From outward appearances one might conclude that I am too lazy to get up or too obstinate to move...such hurtful thoughts.  The truth is that I am overwhelmed with possibilities.  Like a ranked chess player, I have explored the consequences of my actions six moves ahead...and these things take time.

never too old

Me-ow-my-oh!

Me-usings and Me-emories

24 September 2015 - I don't need catnip to act silly, in fact that weed is a fun-pooper for me.  And I am not sure that I can put my paw on the trigger(s).  Sometimes, not all that often, the "mood" hits me and I am a foolish youngster again, scampering about, pouncing on nothing, fascinated by my tail.  Just as quickly I sober up, returning to the body of a double-digit cat.  The recollection of my antics isn't embarrassing, more like a head-scratcher:  "What was that all about?"  I don't know.

Me-ow-my-oh!

Me-usings and Me-emories

23 September 2015 - Twenty-five years ago my peeps kept house with three cats.  Their names pop up occasionally in conversation, and there are a few pictures that document their existence.  That is the distant past to live-in-the-moment me, but evidently I, little ol' solitary moi, fill their void.  I am not one of those high-maintenance sorts, like a pedigreed long-hair.  My idea of a fun evening is to stretch out in front of the television while it is off.  I am content to let the peeps retrieve the wadded paper and chase the laser light.  I applaud their efforts...perhaps that is why I am a keeper.

Me-ow-my-oh!

Me-usings and Me-emories

22 September 2015 - The literature contains no mention of a saint named Calvin, so I am offering myself for that slot.  How else can one understand my stoicism when bombarded by stupidity, my patience when buried beneath frustration.  Normally my modesty would nip such statements in the bud.  However I have realized that a reserved nature does little toward promoting truth.  So the occasional Tuesday will be tell-it-like-it-is day.  Now I'll return to the shadows and my life of contemplation... but my thoughts will continue to reverberate in the ether, turning the world slightly on its ear.

21 September 2015 - There is having a job, and there is having a dream job...and most of us fall into the former camp.  One way to lessen the daily grind is to insert into every hour on the clock five minutes of personal time, some activity that will make you feel better.:  a brisk walk, some stretching exercises, a word game.  My favorite break involves some personal grooming.  A bit of tidying up the coat, a wash behind the ears, and I am a happy cat.

Me-usings and Me-emories

20 September 2015 - The ability to move silently is a must for a predator.  Unless one can sprint like a cheetah, and I certainly can't, in order to eat in the wild one must wield the element of surprise.  We domesticated cats no longer need to stalk our food, but there remain advantages to roaming about on our little cat feet.  With very little effort I can hide from my peeps, often just a short distance away, by moving about, unbeknownst to them.  This talent is quite handy when I suspect a vet visit.
