trivial pursuit

Me-ow-my-oh!

Me-usings and Me-emories

22 February 2017 - The taller peep and I are on the same page:  sleep is good, rules are bad, butter is tasty... which is why I hang out with him in the morning.  Unlike the shorter peep, who has never in my memory, shared with me something from her plate, my bud is willing to slip me a morsel when you-know-who isn't looking.  I pass if he offers me a taste of the sludge that he drinks, but otherwise I appreciate his thoughtfulness.  Don't think that I am dissing the shorter peep:  I accept that she was born with a rigid spine.  She is the one who doles out my treats (which are pretty yummy for prescription food), and her lap is the most comfortable in the house.

purr found

Me-ow-my-oh!

Me-usings and Me-emories

21 February 2017 - If we cats could speak in peep tongue, we would have no peace.  Our numerous lives and keen observations make us a natural repository for wisdom, a source for answers to knotty questions.  Those troubled seekers would find us, form a line that snaked down the mountain, and beseech us for aid.  Destroyed would be our morning naps, our afternoon siestas, our post-meal snoozes, our solitary existence.  And for what?  These same peeps would trouble another of my kind for a second opinion, and another for a third... until one of us said what they were thinking.  Turn on a light bulb if you want enlightenment.

what are the chances?

Me-ow-my-oh!

Me-usings and Me-emories

20 February 2017 - I don't mean to be an alarmist, but the world can be a dangerous place.  Nonetheless as part of my job I venture out, patrolling the grounds.  My safety, and indirectly that of my peeps, depends upon my senses:  the nose informs me what is in the vicinity or has recently traipsed through, my ears detect and pinpoint the source of rustles and snaps, my eyes pan for the slightest motion.  And should something set off my alarm, I depend upon my lungs and legs to sprint me back to safety.  Shouldn't I get hazard pay?

Me-usings and Me-emories

19 February 2017 - The shorter peep and I often have differences of opinion... certainly not deal-breakers, but the sort one would file away as irksome.  We have our morning routine, and mine involves going out on the screened porch.  I consider it part of my job as sentry, to survey the northern approach.  Evidently her "routine" is to keep me waiting, once I am through.  Is this delay a conscious thing?  Does she have a skewed sense of humor?  Does this face look like I am amused??

importunate news

Me-ow-my-oh!

Me-usings and Me-emories

18 February 2017 - Any peep who has spent time around my kind can probably figure out my message:  follow me.  What is amazing is how long I can wait, constantly channeling this thought, before the shorter peep gets it... or perhaps more accurately, reacts to it.  I could get a gray muzzle biding my time for the taller peep, so I focus on the target that can yield positive results.  When my frustration mounts, I have been known to vocalize (as the silent treatment can be ignored).  If that fails to produce an effect, I then struggle to my feet and poke her with a paw.  The things I have to do to be heard....

what ails you?

Me-ow-my-oh!

Me-usings and Me-emories

17 February 2017 - For those of you concerned about yesterday's funk, you can see that I am now "on top of the world, looking down on creation."  In other less-lyrical words, things have settled.  You can't keep a good (or bad) cat down for long.  It is entirely possible that my malaise could have been due to something I ate.  There isn't a great deal of variety in my diet, but there are unsupervised moments when I gobble some unidentified, but irresistible, thing... and then have to chase it with grass, a cud of sorts.  Perhaps I am a slow learner, perhaps I am a victim of ancestral hard-wiring, but I really should strike lizards from the menu.

the sulk road

Me-ow-my-oh!

Me-usings and Me-emories

16 February 2017 - No, I haven't taken to my bed... or perhaps I have.  I really don't feel like analyzing my actions today.  I found myself on this pillow, and I'll remain here until I find myself elsewhere.  These moods don't come over me very often, and I have discovered it best to go limp until it passes.  If at times the world seems more than you can bear, I suggest curling up without your thoughts.  Being a lump as one's vocation will draw ridicule, but for a few hours no one is likely to notice.  Besides who wants to be exposed to a sourpuss?  ( I hear no accepters.)
