over ponder

24 Apr 2023 - Am I on the rug, or not?  Out the portal, or not?  Sometimes we cats are labeled as indecisive... which is a peep perspective of course.  I prefer to think of my cognitive processes as very deliberate.  Myriad possibilities must be admitted as evidence, and each given its moment in court.  There is nothing more wasteful than an act that is immediately rued... and then undone,  So, yes, I cogitate my options, along side my goals, short-term and long-term.  And peeps, if their history can be used as testament, could benefit from more time given to making a decision.

23 Apr 2023 - Of late the weather has been very unsettled, so having multiple roofs over one's head isn't such a radical idea.  The top side of this chair is quite comfy, but there are times, such as this one, when stationing myself beneath it makes sense.  I had detected interloper activity just beyond my screened porch perimeter, of sufficient scope that discretion seemed advisable.  And then, unsummoned, the shorter peep joined me, and our combined weight tilted the conflict in our favor... another victory for the good guys.

silly roost

22 Apr 2023 - A few days ago the shorter peep startled me by somehow situating herself below the floor on which I was resting.  This time she tried to surprise me from above, but I detected her stealthy approach and was ready.  When I first arrived at our domicile, I would have been freaked out, since an act of stalking in my prior experience had undesirable consequences (at least for one of the involved parties).  But in the calm interim, during which I laid claim to both the house and the two peeps, I have realized that she isn't a fearful predator, just an oversized, goofy playmate.

21 Apr 2023 - I don't appear to be focusing in this photograph... perhaps because my eyes were trying not to roll back into my head.  Although the shorter peep gets most of the mention, the taller one is an excellent petter.  The two of us had a rocky start, when I first arrived, mainly because he is so huge (just look at the ratio of his hand to me) but also because unfortunately he reminded me of those who lopped off the tip of my ear.  I think my standoffishness (i.e., terror) understandable, but now we're good mates... although he is still huge.

20 Apr 2023 - Portals are a familiar part of my patrol, a means to survey the surrounding woods, mostly unobserved by the assailants.  But the one pictured to the right probably is my favorite (not counting the ones that allow me passage from here to there), as it consistently attracts the beeps.  I have been entertained by tiny mottled sorts and larger dark smudges.  In fact I am certain that were it not for the portal's thickness, these angry beeps would have swooped my ears and cheeped in my face... which is quite thrilling to imagine.

any questions?

19 Apr 2023 - See what I mean?  Our domicile has unusual spaces.  Even though I have spent much time exploring its dusty edges, I can still be surprised... such as when I heard the shorter peep's voice directly below me (and while I was enjoying a warmed-through-and-through nap).  I am guessing that access to this underworld is peep-controlled, as I have never looked up and seen this view.  I am relieved that an area I don't patrol doesn't seem to be overrun with interlopers... perhaps they are locked out as well?

18 Apr 2023 - Our domicile almost feels like an Escher construction.  I generally think of portals as a separator between outside and inside, yet here I am peering through at the shorter peep who is trying to get my attention (why?  is there an interloper over there?).  We cats are fond of our first impressions (in fact, put a lot of credence in these initial judgments), so I'll have to give this spatial arrangement some thought, perhaps during a work break when I don't have ne'er-do-wells on my mind.   I may have to pawnote this particular spot as an exception to my rule.
