not a creature was stirring

Me-ow-my-oh!

Me-usings and Me-emories

6 December 2015 - There isn't much sacred around our domicile.  Nevertheless Sunday mornings drag time to a trickle, and the ensuing quiet makes me very thankful for such transcendent moments.  In this picture it might look like I have put on a little holiday weight, but that impression is all camera angle.  I am certain that, if I dug around, I would find unflattering shots of you.  So just drop the tubby thoughts.  Besides, black is supposed to be slimming.

out of the ordinary

Me-ow-my-oh!

Me-usings and Me-emories

5 December 2015 - The porch is as safe a room as exists in our house, mainly because it isn't included by the shorter peep as a place to vacuum or a spot to decorate.  Yesterday was the double-whammy of both, so I retreated to my overlooked corner...at least until the noise stopped.  It is a strange phenomenon, this annual decorating of the house.  In a few weeks everything will be gathered up and boxed away...which makes me ask, "why?"  It is fortunate that we don't speak the same language.

all that glitters

Me-ow-my-oh!

Me-usings and Me-emories

4 December 2015 - I recall this time of year as one of high alert.  Odd things regularly appear, some still bearing that new-thing smell, others whiffing of closet mustiness.  Inspecting each and every arrival is a full-time job asked of one who doesn't like overtime.  But curiosity, imagine that, keeps me engaged.  I may not know what exactly I am giving the once-over, but when it is concluded I can honestly say, "it is of no further interest to me"...unless it moves.

Me-usings and Me-emories

2 December 2015 - I have decided one of my main purposes in life is to remind my peeps how to deal with negative feelings.  "Are you stressed?"  Do I look stressed to you?  "Are you frustrated?"  What in the world could frustrate me?  "Are you worried?"  About what?  Yes, just follow my lead for a calmer, happier existence.  Channel all your energy and creativity into discovering different ways to nap.  It's not a race...besides I've got a head start on you.

1 December 2015 - The imagination can drop me into the neon desert that is Las Vegas.  Here I am in my Caesars Palace suite, with a night view of the city that never sleeps.  The place sounds perfect for us nocturnal sorts, especially if I could travel back to the era of the Rat Pack.  With my poker face, I bet that I would be quite good at blackjack.  But where would I put all my winnings without a pocket in my suit?

a slight chance

Me-ow-my-oh!

Me-usings and Me-emories

30 November 2015 - Having once been worshipped, we present-day cats are constantly handed reminders how far we have fallen.  First there is our diminuitive place in the world:  we may appear as giants to meeps, but such a low-life comparison hardly elevates the self-esteem.  Then there is our lopsided relationship with peeps:  that I still must request and remind and cajole them, after more than a decade, into doing my bidding is an irritant to which I'll never become inured.  Humility is a too-small jacket that best suits those of humble birth.

royal companion

Me-ow-my-oh!

Me-usings and Me-emories

29 November 2015 - No, I am not watching for Santa.  We cats don't have a refined sense of time, but I can deduce from the lack of fever pitch that he isn't due to arrive for a while.  Rather, I am surveying my kingdom.  Weather permitting, I saunter onto the porch each morning and check our perimeter.  At this hour of the day there is usually bird activity, and sometimes only that.  After gauging the alert level, I may then take a brief stroll in the yard.  I don't like to leave my peeps for too long...they worry.
