oh, bother

Me-ow-my-oh!

Me-usings and Me-emories

30 September 2016 - My peeps are already lamenting the humidity, but I am basking in the juicy heat of Florida.  Yes, I survived two days of travel., and today I took it easy:  lazed on the screened porch and thanked Bastet for hearing my entreaties.  After four months at 43.9 degrees north, I am back to the land of my birth.  It is true that I am a bit overdressed with my thick coat of hair.  Being warm is high on my priority list... and I can always shed down to my late-summer needs.

Me-ow-my-oh!

Me-usings and Me-emories

26 September 2016 - We are now several days into autumn, that season that ushers in my least favorite time of year.  And I have an observation to share:  a carpet is much warmer than a bare floor.  Maybe this tidbit explains why there are scatter rugs on either side of the bed - my peeps don't like to put their bare feet on cold boards either.  We are a solidarity, forged by thirteen years of togetherness, through baking and freezing.  But my vote goes to baking.

plight of the humble me

Me-ow-my-oh!

Me-usings and Me-emories

25 September 2016 - This photograph is staged so that the viewer isn't aware that deck furniture is missing.  I became aware of their absence yesterday, and spent a chilly morning doing guard duty over the remaining chairs.  We hardly ever see other humans, so the idea that they have been thieved is hard to believe.  The other possibility I don't want to believe.  So far the suitcase has not made an appearance, but in the back of my brain is a niggling thought that travel is in my near-future.  Maybe I should scout out the perfect hiding place now, while there is still time... although remaining behind in this cold weather is not desirable either.  What to do??

24 September 2016 - Part of me understands the shorter peep's declaration, "it's cold out there," but the other part, obviously the voice that I'm listening to, is repeating, like a hung record, "I want to go out."  Because she is a nice peep and realizes that we cats do not engage in debate, she will do my bidding.  Even when I return to this door in a very short while, she will gladly let me enter.  If I am lucky, the "I told you so" will not be spoken, but will be undoubtedly written upon her face... which I can avoid looking at.  We cats are always right, some times more than other times.

Me-ow-my-oh!

Me-usings and Me-emories

23 September 2016 - Our lake has been unusually quiet this summer, but now that the water temperature is dropping (and school is back in session), outdoor activity is almost nonexistent.  Not that I am complaining:  we are a household of introverts, so solitude is just what we like.  Fewer and fewer beeps are showing up at the feeder as well, but those denizens that do not migrate are shopping for winter lodging.  So my vigil is still necessary:  meeps gnawing in the night isn't conducive to sleep.

pleasing to the I

Me-ow-my-oh!

Me-usings and Me-emories

22 September 2016 - How do you give a tuxedo cat stripes?  The picture at right shows one way, and doesn't involve a paintbrush.  On a chilly day, of which we are having more and more, the walkway pattern is interesting, but I am heading for that section without cool shadows.  I have lived long enough to prefer, in a pinch, function to art.  It isn't that I am a philistine, but that I am at my core purractical... probably due to the very circumscribed circumstances under which I began this life.  I can better appreciate the fanciful icing on the cake if I have already eaten.

wonky conk

Me-ow-my-oh!

Me-usings and Me-emories

21 September 2016 - For those of us (and we are the majority) who have asymmetrical faces, I will mention ikebana, or the Japanese art of flower-arranging.  Often the goal is to suggest a scalene triangle, the blah category of three-sided figures, and to emphasis the stems and leaves, downplaying the showy blooms.  Besides having more white on the right half of my face and a hard-to-ignore arc along the bridge of my nose, I am missing quite a few brow whiskers on the left.  The difference isn't enough to make my head tilt to starboard or to result in my walking in circles, but it is a curious thing... and since I am drawn to all things odd, I had to share my inquisitive puss.
