no worries

Me-usings and Me-emories

14 Dec 2021 - This time of year produces a disproportionate amount of stress and anxiety.  The winding down of the year seems to wind us up, as if everything can't be fitted into the days that remain.  Obviously a good bit of this internal pressure is self-generated, because no one is responsible for "everything".  What if a few things with lower priority simply get postponed?  I guarantee the world will continue to spin and orbit.  When there doesn't seem to be enough time is precisely when one shouldn't neglect self:  eat wisely and sleep well... give yourself a break.

Me-usings and Me-emories

13 Dec 2021 - "Tra-la-la", "ho-ho-ho":  interjections, as well as other parts of speech, depend upon the species' mouth structure, how the tongue makes contact with the teeth and palate.  We cats, when wishing to exclaim, make sounds that are perhaps best captured as "yow-yow".  Also we are fond of a slower time signature, so one of our yows occupies the same space as a peep's tra-la-la.  Together our two voices make a contrapuntal frame that might hold the audience's attention for two or three measures... and then its monotony becomes obvious.  I suppose my peeps and I could next work on harmony, but my limited timbre is best suited to a droning accompaniment.

12 Dec 2021 - Interlopers can be hiding anywhere... and so can treats, so while I am waiting for the shorter peep to sit down for our first meal, I seek answers.  This morning nothing of interest was found, but that doesn't mean tomorrow will follow suit.  Home security breaks down when matters are decided by a pattern (or by convenience).  As soon as the bad guys realize that I only check beneath the table every third day, then they fill the gap... it is what I would do.  To beat them at the game, I have to think like the enemy (but act like a good boy).

who would have thought?

Me-usings and Me-emories

11 Dec 2021 - We cats have the reputation of willful destructors... the sort to nonchalantly push objects off counters or shelves, for example.  Peeps, who tend to be the owners of said objects as well as the ones left to pick up the pieces, naturally conclude the worst.  It may not satisfactorily answer the question, but curiosity is the main culprit (the other would be idle time on our paws).  Does a bauble fall to the earth as quickly as something of heft?  Certainly their impact sounds would not be confused, and the scatter patterns vary widely.  We just have inquiring minds, and the world is a fascinating place.

10 Dec 2021 - I can't believe I climbed this steep incline, just to perch on its peak.  Sometimes I believe I'm possessed... because the "normal" me would not have attempted this foolishness.  But riding an adrenaline wave I scaled the heights, and may have gloated just a bit while viewing the western yard from this vantage point.  Dismounting was much easier:  leap down (and not even a record distance for me).  The odd, even disconcerting, thing about this behavior is that I may swear it won't happen again, but it undoubtedly will... and I can't say where or when.  Sentient creatures assert they are agents of free will, masters of their actions and reactions, but that is just wishful thinking.

9 Dec 2021 - One of my kind has been spotted sashaying through the bushes.  Just his fur alone weights more than me!  I'm sure he is aware of me, but is unfazed.  Meanwhile, I run around the porch, vying for the best viewpoint.  Don't misinterpret my actions:  I am not looking for a playmate.  He is an interloper... perhaps not much threat to our domicile, but indirectly a challenge to my sovereignty.  I want to ensure that every entry is followed by an exit:  "not in my yard!"

8 Dec 2021 - I can count on one claw the number of peeps that are offered my belly (and it's not the one you'd guess).  We cats do our darndest to avoid the label of "easy"... aggravatingly aloof is our goal, but I am easily tempted by head pats (and evidently belly rubs).  A compromise works best for me, as I see no point in cutting out things that I love (rather like a peep diet stripped down to water and lettuce... not even admirable, as it is doomed to fail, and make you miserable in the meantime).  And think how much trust must exist to present your most vulnerable area... I hope he appreciates the gesture.
