Argus, aye

Me-usings and Me-emories

18 Dec 2024 - The shorter peep didn't give sufficient thought to the placement of I-don't know-what-to-call-it.  Despite its attempt to block my way, I still manage my perimeter checks.  Besides it offers a wily interloper a great hiding place, a fact I was immediately aware of, so naturally I must investigate the nooks were a ne'er-do-well might nestle.  My vigilance has been rewarded:  no signs of squatters.  However I must continue to make my rounds, must persist in defending the line.

17 Dec 2024 - Let me outta here!  It may look as if I'm in distress, but I'm just speaking to the shorter peep as she walks by.  Of course fear can make you forget where the exit is, even what your name is (although the former has more serious consequences).  Almost daily, with peep assistance, I nose around this office extension.  It has a great view and minimal disruption from any employee activity... but its restricted access gives me pause.  Do I really want to claim a space where the back door is a twenty-foot drop into a jungly unknown?  Only a very small part of me says, "most definitely".

16 Dec 2024 - The shorter peep's remake of our domicile has left a few cushions still designated for sitting (and napping)... which is appreciated.  We have enjoyed a few days of weather that permitted extended time on my restricted personal screened porch, but most of my day is spent walking my beat through the various rooms, up and down the many stairs.  I am not complaining:  I am still on the youthful side of middle age, and the exercise is good for me, regardless of my years.

a hush of kind

Shamus on view

Me-usings and Me-emories

15 Dec 2024 - The world is a friendlier place when seen from a peep lap.  To feel loved and secure is to be less fearful, and hence to be more receptive to things outside one's comfort zone.  My comfort zone is admittedly very narrow:  noises make me jump, and visitors are not welcome.  But when my purr box is cranked to full volume and my eyelids are at half-mast, those sudden sounds are muffled and invasions seem less intrusive.  This analogy only goes so far, as at some point my fight-or-flight instincts (emphasis on the latter) interrupt my idyl... and I skedaddle.

my way

Shamus on view

Me-usings and Me-emories

14 Dec 2024 - I fear that our eastern flank, the one most commonly approached by alien peeps, is not being adequately monitored:  my portal ledge from which I gathered intel has been claimed by the shorter peep.  I can only hope that the busyness is temporary as a few days of neglect would probably go unnoticed by interlopers.  If I were not so fussy, I could probably perch in the window corner... but I am very particular about things in close proximity to my purrson.

what to do

Shamus on view

Me-usings and Me-emories

13 Dec 2024 - Although this picture could be titled "a study in black and white", how it came to be is not so academic:  I was waiting - yet again - for the shorter peep to meander to the kitchen and prepare my breakfast.  Having fasted for many hours, I needed to stoke my furnace lest the fire go out (and I truly freeze into a lifelike cat statue).  That you are now reading my thoughts means that there was a happy ending despite the tense plot buildup.

Me-usings and Me-emories

12 Dec 2024 - Those roof noises are definitely not "prancing and pawing"... more like ne'er-do-well scurrying.   And how annoying that I can hear their scratches but not see them (my glare depends upon eye contact).  I have had limited success with subliminal messaging, but then I suspect my and their brains are very different.  The only end to this particular frustration is to continue my rounds, push their intrusion out of my head, and engage in a battle where I can actually make a difference... thankfully those scenarios aren't hard to find.
