the heights

Me-ow-my-oh!

Me-usings and Me-emories

31 August 2015 - Occasionally life is great...and the trick is to recognize those moments and to savor them.  And everyone's definition of "great" is her own.  Clearly we cats feel no need to achieve fame (or fortune).  Peep recognition is, after all, the muddled opinion of peeps...my heart will continue to beat without their endorsement.  My goal is to be content, to squelch ambition before it disturbs my equilibrium.  It would be embarrassing to fall off my perch.

ease up

Me-ow-my-oh!

Me-usings and Me-emories

30 August 2015 - I am conflicted:  I love hot weather but I also enjoy my lap bed...however having both at once threatens to overheat my radiator.  Since I can do little about the ambient heat, I do the reasonable thing and shorten the cozy time.  There will come a day, when we lean away from the sun's warmth, that I will be able to stretch my stay.  The one flaw in my plan is that the shorter peep, akin to a flea, doesn't sit still for very long.

a risky business

Me-ow-my-oh!

Me-usings and Me-emories

28 August 2015 - The shorter peep likes to think that she can sneak up on me, catch me in a candid moment.  But even with bare feet, she announces her presence quite unmistakably.  It really isn't quite wise to hobble your senses.  Peeps are extremely bad about plugging their ears and being otherwise distracted.  I have seen a tap on the arm required to get the taller peep's attention...a bit too close for comfort if the prodder was a predator.  Believing that one is safe encourages the guard to be dropped, but we cats are too smart for that con.

Me-ow-my-oh!

Me-usings and Me-emories

28 August 2015 - Unlike a papered cat, I was not purchased, so I never had my worth represented by a dollar figure.  I am not ashamed to state that I was a campus foundling... which I interpret as quite young savvy, since I could have been across the street at the now razed Stingray's.  Although other felines may follow me, none can replace me.  Just ignore that "$10 off" coupon...I am not for sale.

Me-ow-my-oh!

Me-usings and Me-emories

27 August 2015 - The world is an amazing place, and sometimes scary too.  I enjoy my occasional foray into the woods, the nose on high alert.  But depending on the time of year, these excursions can expose me to all sorts of blood-sucking insects.  Places with little fur protection, such as my ears, are favored by the mosquitoes.  When the annoyance reaches intolerable, I elect to remain inside and observe from a window ledge.  It mutes the full experience, but during the rainy season it is highly recommended.

lying ayes

Me-ow-my-oh!

Me-usings and Me-emories

26 August 2015 - Today is National Dim Deep Day...how thoroughly depressing!  When I learned the news I had to lie down until the feeling passed.  The shorter peep tried to cheer me up:  evidently we felines have our day in the spotlight as well...but the two events rather cancel one another out, don't you think?  tit for tat, mutt for cat.  I gladly would have remained ignorant, but now I know.  Harumph....

Me-usings and Me-emories

25 August 2015 - The head is up, the eyes are open...and exercise was involved, since the prior photograph was taken a full flight up.  Is it any wonder that I felt the need to lie down?  It is all about the pacing...who knows when that pesky feline visitor will next appear in our yard?  I conserve for that anticipated assault.  In the meantime it does no harm to use this flank of mirrors to check on my grooming...there is a spot between the shoulders that is almost impossible to reach.

Me-ow-my-oh!

Me-usings and Me-emories

24 August 2015 - With my head up, this picture does not qualify, by my definition, as a snooze shot.  I think that it epitomizes an alert relaxation that Shaolin acolytes strive toward.  We cats know how to conserve energy without turning into an amorphous Jabba.  Before fingers have the chance to snap, I could be on my feet and elsewhere.  Instead of the obligatory desk paperweight, my peeps have me...to lead by example.

Me-ow-my-oh!

Me-usings and Me-emories

23 August 2015 - Not much has changed since yesterday, but that is a fairly typical state of affairs for me.  I need my sleep, and I set my goals accordingly.  Besides, this hot weather encourages sloth...and who am I to disagree?  My peeps have been spinning around ever since our return...they are really quite tiring to watch...so I have appointed myself their R&R proxy.  It is working at least for me.

22 August 2015 - Because putting it into words wasn't an option, I evidently communicated via body English my need for a designated spot.  Since our return from the almost-frozen north, I have been wandering the premises, unsure where to stake my claim.  The shorter peep picked up on my fretfulness, and anchored me with a peep-provided towel in a peep-approved location.  I have been unwinding ever since.

Me-ow-my-oh!

Me-usings and Me-emories

21 August 2015 - "Go sit in the corner" was not what I was thinking...at least consciously.  But when one is feeling a tad anxious, it is comforting to have the back to the wall.  Part of the appeal of this particular nook is that I have a great view of the fish pond area, a known attractor for all manner of creatures...so that I can see who/what might be lurking just beyond the glass.  It isn't paranoia, just caution.  "Nine lives" doesn't sound like much of a backup plan.

20 August 2015 - The day is off to a promising start:  I am up...in several different meanings.  Kliban appreciated the sinuous contours of a cat, although he seemed especially fond of the well-fed sort.  I think my best angle is between four and five o'clock, as here...a decent hour often chosen for such civilized rituals as tea and biscuitsMany artists have turned their critical gaze upon our physique, and the result is quite satisfying to behold.  We do know how to embody elegance.

19 August 2015 - Yes, I am still recovering from my two-day ordeal...but I am beginning to glimpse my former self.  Even in this drowsy state I have heard the peeps grousing about the weather, but I confess to preferring these sauna-like conditions to what we left behind.  I have been spending a good deal of my time on the screened porch (see yesterday's photo), only shooed in by rumbles of thunder and darkness (and hunger pangs).  Finally I am warm!  It is a wonderful thing.
