upfront

Me-ow-my-oh!

Me-usings and Me-emories

31 March 2016 - When life seems overly complex, perhaps the viewpoint is the problem.  From where I lay, there are no obstructions... just an uncluttered view of nature in all its random messiness.  The difference between the simple life and one that offers a maze of frustrations can be measured here in a few linear feet...surprising isn't it?  What are you trying to prove anyway?  That you can handle the challenges, can leverage an intermediate position into something that others will envy?  Life is short (and this is said by someone with nine story lines), so plop down in a front-row seat and own it.

Me-ow-my-oh!

Me-usings and Me-emories

30 March 2016 - Porch, bedroom, office...I like to keep my peeps guessing where I'll be next.  My choice of sleeping spot is usually affected by ambient temperature and my anxiety level.  I seek out a closet drawer when I need less stimulation, although there are times when even that out-of-the-way place has too much foot traffic and is too bright.  Even I can't rationalize why one drawer level is preferable to another, but I can feel the difference and that is good enough for me.  After all the point is to enjoy untroubled sleep.

my corner of the world

Me-ow-my-oh!

Me-usings and Me-emories

29 March 2016 - I am a homebody... not a character flaw in my opinion.  I was born here, and if I have my say will end my nine lives here.  Those of you who know my circumstances are aware of my views on travel, and also know that against my wishes I am often bundled off to distant places with my two peeps.  It stinks to be in the minority.  However, just as the half-empty glass can be half-full, I will admit that there are months upon months when I am allowed to stay put, to creep no further than the back yard...those are the best of times.

muss hard and relish

Me-ow-my-oh!

Me-usings and Me-emories

28 March 2016 - Light and shadow, commonplace yet the stuff of Renaissance painters, is mostly overlooked here in the sunshine state.  We can be blinded by the brilliance, needing to squint at the world, or we can retreat to the cool darkness, eyes wide open.  When the humidity is low, as is often the case in the spring, the edges of objects are sharp enough to cut.  Once the air juices up, the view is softened, the colors muted, as if seen through a thin fog.  Most of the time, I will be found basking in the yellow warmth, but even I appreciate variety.

27 March 2016 - I don't believe in the Easter Bunny, but I would not have minded being proven wrong.  I noticed that the taller peep received a dark-chocolate rabbit (from the shorter peep...no miracles here).  I have never tasted chocolate, and we cats are warned not to eat the stuff (how is that for fair).  So I really didn't want a basket of Godiva treats, but being remembered in some fashion (my very own stuffed cheep would have been in keeping with the theme) would have been appreciated.  I am now largely over the disappointment, and am dealing with the fact that today will be just another day...which means it is time for my morning nap.

Me-ow-my-oh!

Me-usings and Me-emories

26 March 2016 - The life of a kept feline can at times feel confining, especially when compared to the freedom enjoyed by the king of the jungle.  I am lucky in that I am an only child and have a spacious domicile to wander, as well as access to the outdoors when I get a bit stir-crazy.  But when I consider the bigger picture, the predators that lurk out there, the messy weather, the spectrum of temperatures, the annoying blood-suckers...well, these four walls keep out far more than they keep in.

Me-ow-my-oh!

Me-usings and Me-emories

25 March 2016 - Here I am guarding the wash.  What could happen, you might wonder...but then you wouldn't know about the even-toed ungulates that wander through our yard.  Mostly they chew on the plants, but I don't trust them not to nibble the wet clothes.  And if spooked, they could certainly in their panic knock laundry and pole to the ground.  So here I patiently sit, doing my job for a bowl of kibbles and a head scratch.  In today's job market those benefits aren't too shabby.

24 March 2016 - Don't they teach the Golden Rule anymore??  So many grouse about today's rude society, but if we as individuals don't demonstrate kindness and thoughtfulness, then we are as much a part of the problem as the convenient them.  Each of us has our strengths and our failings, and to recognize these in others often provides an understanding of behavior.  That is not making excuses for them, but rather keeps us from dismissing them as degenerates.  Besides, knowing that he is labeled "bad", a hopeless cause has little reason to reciprocate good will.  The shorter peep is well aware of my head's diameter , so next time she should leave more than a few drops of juice in the bottom of the glass....please.

23 March 2016 - I am not sure what makes today different from yesterday, but today is a frisky sort of day.  I have already run up a tree (seriously) and gracefully backed myself down.  All I want to do is exult in being alive.  I truly hope that you have experienced such a moment:  when nothing could be better than to be you in this particular place and time. Some of my exuberance is undoubtedly because I no longer need to sit on my paws to keep them warm.  And should you be wondering, no catnip was involved.

22 March 2016 - My peeps and I aren't the sort to schedule an annual family portrait.  Rather random pictures are taken, some keepers, some not.  Here is the latest of us three, although no one is completely in the frame.  I believe it was the Impressionists who shocked the art world by cutting off their subject matter, suggesting that the image continued beyond the edges of he painting.  I can't claim that that was the intention here...it was just what the camera happened to record.  Between you and me, I do think that I am the most photogenic of the bunch.

21 March 2016 - The taller peep was clearly through with his breakfast by the time that I found his plate.  I am fairly certain that the role of the taster is to sample the food before it is served...but I suppose he wasn't willing to wait.  The crumbs that remained were quite edible, my only complaint being the portion size.  You will also notice that he left me no milk in the glass.  At least when the shorter peep is eating, she will occasionally scratch my head... a carb-free consolation prize.  One must take what one gets.

Me-ow-my-oh!

Me-usings and Me-emories

20 March 2016 - Yes, this is a picture of me....I just don't have a prominent role in this first day of spring.  I like this time of year purely because it precedes summer, which is why the shorter peep prefers autumn.  We are not all cut from the same cookie mold around here, giving variety in our dessert offerings.  After last night's shower, the azalea flowers are looking a tad spent, but they were lovely during their brief reign.  Evidently they are pretty enough to eat, as I have noticed a particular gray beep devouring the petals.  And if you are wondering:  I am obviously an oreo,  my shorter peep is a ginger snap, and the taller peep claims (and definitely has an affinity for) the chocolate chip cookie.

Me-ow-my-oh!

Me-usings and Me-emories

19 March 2016 - My peeps are mostly unaware of what I do to protect our home.  Not all of the perimeter is masonry wall, and I keep a close watch on these vulnerable points.  Most of the trespassers are very minor-league, of the beep and squeep  varieties.  Not dangerous (unless we become a Hitchcock movie set), these are mostly aggravating...especially the one fellow whose job it has been for the past ten days to fight his window reflection.  Extremely rare Florida panthers, all-too-invasive Everglades pythons, wily coyotes...you can see why I don't let down my guard.
