Me-usings and Me-emories
1 March 2016 - It takes a great deal of time and patience to train a peep. First I have to get her attention. That alone can involve half the morning. Then, when she has fixed her gaze upon me, I have perhaps five seconds to introduce today's lesson. Sometimes I have less than five seconds...but this process of waiting and then hurriedly teaching must be repeated until she begins to grasp the concept. Very soon thereafter (before it can slip from her short-term memory) we practice what we have learned. But that doesn't mean we are done: some time later there is a, let's call it a pop quiz, to ascertain what has been retained. Depending upon that result, the entire process may have to be rebooted. Teaching is an undervalued profession.
