I deal eyes

Me-ow-my-oh!

Me-usings and Me-emories

30 June 2018 - I know the day is off to a superlative start when mid-morning I am in need of shady spots.  Of course, weather is all relative... so perhaps after a month of chilly lakeside living, my definition of "warm" has slipped a tad north.  Whatever, my perceptions give today high marks (and as you know by now, the higher the mercury the higher the score).  I am not the only corporeal being who is enjoying this Saturday:  the beeps (and unfortunately the squeeps) are very active, and there are strange peeps already putt-putting about the lake.  As long as they don't come ashore, I will tolerate their presence (but it does mess up my notion of an idyll).

Me-ow-my-oh!

Me-usings and Me-emories

29 June 2018 - According to the shorter peep, we were promised some sun today, but my memory of yesterday's weather, and this photo, will have to suffice.  Here I am surveying the front approach to our domicile.  The pesky squeeps think that this area is theirs.  I often see them scrounging in the grass for something to eat (perhaps for something that was hidden last year).  My effort to evict them is still on-going, i.e., they don't let me get very close before scrambling up the nearest tree.  I could follow them... but then I'd have to figure out how to get down.

28 June 2018 - Another blustery day at the lake... I miss you, sunshine!  So I'm declaring all of today's work to be inside jobs.  Our domicile's square footage is such that I can be done with my patrol in short order, and get to the more serious business of R&R.  And I have discovered yet another underscore of why my peeps and I are such a good team:  the imprint from their sitting on the sofa fits me perfectly... and has residual heat if I move in quickly.  It pays (this time in BTUs) to be observant.

Me-ow-my-oh!

Me-usings and Me-emories

27 June 2018 - I sincerely hope that you experience many days when it is good to be alive... that sort of day when animals are seen wiggling their backs in the grass, when dim deeps merrily chase their tails.  My peeps have witnessed my happy possession, when for a few seconds I bat around a paper wad or race up the stairs, then race back down.  Too much wild behavior is unbecoming in us cats of a certain age... but who could guess our rambunctious thoughts?

26 June 2018 - Our mettle is tested during trying times, and yesterday was certainly one to be endured.  Not everything can be bested, and it is those instances where simply surviving is the game plan.  Almost a week into "official" summer (and that distinction matters here in the hinterland), we were treated to a cold and persistent blow that lasted all day.  Gales of that strength and that longevity boggle this cat's brain... which is why, in this sheltered spot, I had to lie down.

new leash on life

Me-ow-my-oh!

Me-usings and Me-emories

25 June 2018 - Cats can't help feeling animosity toward barriers.  Why should we be kept out or in or there or here?  An open-access world is our kind of place.  That is probably utopian thinking (and certainly appears to be), and I can understand the shorter peep's desire to keep the biting bugs in their place (as in drowned in the sea).  But I am not a blood-sucking black fly, so remind me why I must request entry into >our< domicile.  True, the doors are also closed to both peeps, but they have the ability to flip the latch, turn the knob, push it open... and I do not.  What was Bastet thinking?

Me-usings and Me-emories

23 June 2018 - Cats are intrigued by things "high", such as high-strung, high-handed, high-minded, even high-maintenance.  Not all of these apply to each individual, but I will certainly admit to a preference for high places.  I have succeeded in convincing the shorter peep to feed me here on my white perch.  Besides, who feels special when his dish is plopped on the floor?   Five feet above the dust, it is a good spot to lounge, to observe, so why not to eat?  Anyway, it suits me and, in a cat's mind, that is what matters.

22 June 2018 - It is hard to suppress a yawn, even when something interesting/pleasant is happening.  I would not want the shorter peep to think that scratching my noggin is a boring matter.  But this spot between her computer and the window is a favorite one for napping, so naturally that was what I was engaged in.  Even so, please don't cut short the hands-on attention... I can always sleep afterwards.

21 June 2018 - After yesterday's brilliance, today has been a quiet after-thought.  Neither I nor my peeps mind a slow day at the lake, in fact we each get jangled if there is too much activity, too much noise.  So don't surmise that we didn't appreciate the opportunity to reflect, in fact be able to hear ourselves think.  One might hope that something singled out with an auspicious name, summer solstice, would warrant fanfare.  But as we make our way around the sun, our planetary home progresses noiselessly through the void.

Me-usings and Me-emories

20 June 2018 - Wow!  The sun was up very early this morning.  No wonder I need all these extra naps:  the night is short!  I can make myself at home almost anywhere that is quiet and comfy.  The back of the sofa is a favorite spot on which to stretch out, as it allows me to look clandestinely over my peeps' shoulders.  So far their reading choices haven't caught my interest (not enough pictures and no Garfield strips), but I am always curious as to what holds their attention.

19 June 2018 - Dreams can be pleasant, disorienting, tiring, even frightening.  The smaller peep tells me that I dream.  I don't know if I do or don't, but a leg twitch sometimes awakens me from slumber.  On these occasions she would remark that I was on the hunt, pursuing my prey.  I suppose that could be the explanation for a sudden muscle spasm... and it isn't so ridiculous to be dismissed without further thought.  I know my peeps definitely have twilight experiences, as I have heard them mutter while deep in repose.  But my lips are sealed.

18 June 2018 - After the chaos of an on-site bridge marathon, the fact that today is muted suits me just fine.  The morning pastels, the post-weekend quiet, the beep chatter, all help me relax after a stressful Sunday.  I am not advocating that my peeps live as hermits, but would appreciate their selection of a quieter bunch of friends.  I am a good example of thoughtful roommate:  I never bring home the odd acquaintance... though truthfully it is mostly because I can only tolerate his company for short spurts.  No, I keep my own counsel (and haven't yet needed to raise my voice).

17 June 2018 - My backdrop is well lit, and I have already seized the day (my peeps will attest that I have been out, and in, the door many times).  Such an energetic seize was it, that I am taking a much-deserved siesta.  These naps are indulged in wherever the afternoon heat must be escaped.  That is not our problem here, but in a show of solidarity I join my tropical brothers in a moment of quiet.
