Me-ow-my-oh!

Me-usings and Me-emories

15 December 2018 - You shouldn't begrudge someone's definition of "hard at work".  It is impossible to know what is going on inside my head, what knotty problems I am unraveling, what personnel issues I am resolving.  Who is to say that I don't do my best thinking while lying down?  And honestly, wouldn't you enjoy a job where you could sprawl on the floor or curl up on the window ledge?  I regret that your office may not bear resemblance to mine... but you really shouldn't blame me for the difference.

Me-usings and Me-emories

14 December 2018 - It sadly is that time of year when one tries to cram in good behavior... to counterbalance past missteps.  In hopes that Santa is watching, I am exuding good will to this tiny beep who is a frequent visitor to our dining room window.  His attempts to claim my territory is an affront that I deem best set right, but today I am cutting him some slack.  I don't know if I'll have the strength to do the same tomorrow... but the peeps like to claim that today should be our only concern.  I hope that the red-suited fella feels similarly.

Me-usings and Me-emories

13 December 2018 - I was relieved to discover, after the fact, that licking this icicle snowman did not cause my tongue to get stuck.  That would have been beyond embarrassing (and probably would have warranted sacrificing a few papillae and swiping the culprit onto the floor).  Florida cats are not privy to the hazards of ice and snow (thank Bastet), which means that we can get ourselves into comical (at least to the observer) situations.  And it is probably true that we felines do not have a sense of humor:  we don't take kindly to being laughed at, and our bilious humours would certainly tip toward yellow.  If our tail is sharply snapping up and down, step away from the cat.

11 December 2018 - I trust that you will recall what I look like, since the photograph at the right offers no clues as to my appearance.  The shorter peep told me that we are still ten days away from the longest night of the year, but even without that information there are multiple clues that it is not the middle of July.  Darkness is far less an obstacle for my kind than for peeps, which means that should one of mine get up from bed for a nocturnal stroll, I keep my distance:  neither of us wishes to get entangled with the other.

10 December 2018 - Today is showing more promise than twenty-four hours ago.  I don't begrudge the world a bit of rain (I understand the need for periodic faucet drinks), but hours of the wet stuff can be a bore, even depressing.  Anyway, we survived the deluge, and the sun is attempting to appear.  I am on the sidelines, cheering its efforts as the ambient temperature is chillier than I prefer.  Unlike many places to our north, we have been spared a surprise visit from Frosty.  Having no wish to turn into a feline ice sculpture - although it could be a winning entry - I do not feel deprived.

9 December 2018 - Yes, I have several allotments of curiosity, but as the domicile guard, unattended bags are subject to search... and seizure if they smell appealing.  This bag was deemed uninteresting, but I will make no such assumptions about the next one.  As the local representative of Tomcat Security Administration, I must remain objective with an air of superior aloofness (the latter I can pull off in my sleep).  However my peeps know my yogurt bias... I must rely on their integrity to withhold overt bribes (the other sort will be quietly accepted).

8 December 2018 - December can be an overwhelming month:  visitors, family, obligations, debts.  When I don't want reality to find me, I give myself a few minutes of solitude.  The exact amount depends upon my level of stress and how resilient my psyche.  My peeps recognize and respect this strategy (perhaps because they employ it as well), so my time-out is undisturbed and quite effective.  Eventually I am able to face the world again, with purr-box restored to working order.
