a crafty house

Me-usings and Me-emories

14 Jan 2022 - From my hiding spot, I could see that the bad guys were onto me, were preparing a frontal assault.  The odds of two to one weren't ideal, but the pumping adrenaline said that I could take them.  And here I am this morning, having obviously prevailed in last evening's attack.  Before you begin the eye-rolling, do consider that being relatively small in size doesn't mean that it is harmless.  There are a host of undesirable things, some that are quite deadly, some that "merely" knock you flat, that can't be perceived with the unaided senses.  So I treat anything threatening as a serious matter until I have witnessed its demise or its hasty retreat.

delicate matters

Shamus on view

Me-usings and Me-emories

13 Jan 2022 - I do hope that you're not tired of seeing me in a sunny spotlight... as I can't imagine me ever growing tired of being there.  Again it is all in knowing where to be in the house (or screened porch) at what time of day.  Supposedly beeps will toast themselves just to make their bodies less inviting to buggy interlopers.  Thankfully I don't have such an up-close-and-personal relationship with our local interlopers, so the warmth is purely for my comfort.  My coat has gotten a tad thicker since these cooler days first arrived, but it, like me, is a lightweight.

window laze

Shamus on view

Me-usings and Me-emories

12 Jan 2022 - Although a sunny disposition draws admirers, if forced to choose I would select this sunny window ledge.  Warmth, pleasant view, good vantage point:  of course I am there.  The only drawback is that I must wait until the afternoon to enjoy its full benefits... earlier in the day it is just another perch.  Yesterday I caught the shorter peep sitting in a pool of sunshine (did she get the idea from me?).  It only makes sense to bask while the basking is optimal.  Tomorrow (heck, even an hour from now) the clouds may wrap us in wintry gloom.

Shamus on view

Me-usings and Me-emories

11 Jan 2022 - The dorsal side of a seated cat is a thing of beauty, sleek and contoured.  It probably was Bastet's idea to make this view unviewable, lest our egos get even bigger.  But we are aware of its impact on an unbiased observer, so we are not totally ignorant that we turn heads... not just our own.  But good looks alone won't buy kibble, so I focus more on being indispensable.  Hence my vigilance on the local population of interlopers (that, and it's fun).  A winning personality opens doors as well, and thankfully I am not snarky by nature.  It is all part of my plan to be forever employed (and loved).

infer the ride

Shamus on view

Me-usings and Me-emories

10 Jan 2022 - Can you spot the cat?  This room of our domicile offers the best camouflage for a tuxedo such as myself.  Against a backdrop of Nature's green I cast a definite shadow... actually any place that doesn't stick to the black-and-white palette provides no place for me to hide (unless I duck under a floor-hugging piece of furniture).  But here, standing stock-still I can be mistaken for a chair leg...  not exactly a cloak of invisibility, but empowering even so.  "Where's Shamus?", the shorter peep calls.  Perhaps she is pulling my leg, figuratively speaking, but in my cat head I am stealthily approaching the unaware interlopers... won't they get a big surprise when I pounce?

rubbed the wrong way

Shamus on view

Me-usings and Me-emories

9 Jan 2022 - Another picture to confirm that I don't exaggerate:  I do lots of waiting.  The shorter peep and I know our morning routine (we've only done it a zillion times), so my presence at the top of the steps is not to prompt her memory but to hasten her pace.  "What difference does five minutes make?", you might be thinking.  True, in the grand scheme, the trying of my patience is nothing, a wee problem unnoticed by the rest.  But I am not a by-stander, watching the plot slowly unwind and the characters develop into their own.  Those five minutes are mine, and while my stomach growls, the rest of my day is on hold.  So, please, get a move on.

Me-usings and Me-emories

8 Jan 2022 - Whenever I have to wait on a peep (which happens more than I can count), I situate myself on something comfortable:  my patience lasts longer when seated on a soft, tactile material.  It allows me, unobserved, to flex and sheathe my claws... a coping mechanism for us cats, and far preferable to us slashing out at a passing ankle.  This particular pause in my day could have been due to a number of things:  waiting for my personal portal to be opened, waiting for someone to notice me, waiting for someone to instigate a skedaddle.  You might think that I am in need of a cat buddy... but actually want I'd like is a more attentive peep.
