you can run....

Me-ow-my-oh!

Me-usings and Me-emories

4 December 2017 - Both predator and prey need to have keen detection of movement.  To perceive a shift, a twitch, could throw the standoff.  I am quite certain that something flinched to my left.  The potted plant offers a place to hide (especially since its leaves have serrated edges), but to remain concealed one must be still... until that moment when one is spotted.  Only my peeps and myself belong on this porch, so the lurker needs to be collared and ousted... and that task falls to me.  Time will determine if my patience can thaw its frozen fear.

Me-usings and Me-emories

3 December 2017 - I am very happy to report that I have pulled back from the brink.  Relief came after foraging on a handful of grass blades.  Allow me to add my distinctive voice to the parental chorus, "eat your greens".  The shorter peep seems relieved now that we are back to our routine:  I prod her out of bed, we enjoy breakfast together, we share our body heat in front of the keyboard.  Life is good here on this quiet Sunday morning, but we can feel reverence for our bounty, our fortunate circumstances, our health any day of the week.  Can I get a "meow" on that?

2 December 2017 - I am feeling under the weather, which stinks when Mr. Sunshine is doing his welcomed thing.  "Was it something that I ate?"  That is hard to know, since I eat virtually the same thing day after day.  Admittedly I augment my diet with the occasional lizard, but I am blaming shed hair.  If my peeps would adequately, and regularly, comb my fur, I wouldn't swallow so much of it... and end up with the belly ache.  As in all woes, this too shall pass.  The big question is "in what life time?"

potent wait

Me-ow-my-oh!

Me-usings and Me-emories

1 December 2017 - There is the every-now-and-then day when no one can burst your bubble.  You beam at the world, even if it glares back; your feet hardly make contact with the ground.  It is difficult to pinpoint the cause of these joy-filled moments, and equally elusive how to conjure one up when it is needed.  These difficulties in duplication simply make the serendipity all the more special.  So don't waste the feeling (for who knows when you will experience it again).  Think of it as a virtual massage, a pretend jacuzzi session, a whatever makes you feel pampered and alive.  My personal favorite is a regal daydream, where I sit upon my throne and my kingdom adores me.

Me-ow-my-oh!

Me-usings and Me-emories

30 November 2017 - One can't live in a hidey-hole forever, so I have cautiously emerged.... and just in time for breakfast!  I am relieved that the household is still recognizable, just with more stuff that I can bat around and/or knock over... well, perhaps true when I was a kit.  We cats are true suckers when it comes to dangly things, and if they are just above stretched-height, we are challenged to make them swing.  You peeps should understand, having coined the phrase "be all that you can be."  My species has lots to aspire to in the mischief department.  Even the threat of a naughty-and-nice list doesn't impact our trajectory.

gilding the willy-nilly

Me-ow-my-oh!

Me-usings and Me-emories

29 November 2017 - The shorter peep is up to something.  It all feels vaguely familiar:  first she hauls everything out of a closet, one whose twisty maze I enjoy exploring.  From the chaos of boxes and bags she pulls desired objects... I would help her if there was a discernible pattern to her choices.  She then goes about the house, placing these objects.  What was wrong with the items removed to make way for the new, I can't fathom.  Hours pass as she goes about her busy-ness.  Lest I get swept up in these redecorating efforts, I find a space that has low visibility and requires the bending of peep knees to actually spot.  Don't let her know that you've seen me.

Me-ow-my-oh!

Me-usings and Me-emories

28 November 2017 - The shorter peep and I are morning people; however don't confuse us with dairy farmers... there are no cows for us to milk, so we wait for the sun to make an appearance before leaving the warm bed.  There are many things to like about these early-day moments:  the quiet, the newness, the sharp light, but I suspect none of these things would get us up were it not that our eyes just naturally pop open at this hour, long before the same occurs to the taller peep... although truthfully, in describing his awakening, "pop" suggests far more energy and enthusiasm than we witness.
