flirty winks

Shamus on view

Me-usings and Me-emories

14 Sep 2022 - I guess I'm supposed to be a nocturnal animal... and I do wander our domicile in my pre-dawn patrol.  But otherwise, when the sun disappears, I'm napping somewhere.  The three of us hang out, each doing his own thing, until the shorter peep announces she is off to bed.  I look forward to this moment because I will have several hours of her unmoving lap to enjoy.  Once she has decided to change positions, I will rearrange myself nearby, particularly if it is going to be a chilly night, or seek out a favorite chair... which one (closest to a portal, roughest in texture, with the most pillows) decided by an unconscious process.

silence of the I-am

Me-usings and Me-emories

14 Sep 2022 - With my back half baking in the sun and my front half in shadow, I am, on average, quite comfortable... and the cushion adds to the overall effect.  Lately our days have begun in thick whiteness, a blanket that by mid-morning is folded away.  After more time has passed, the sun emerges, making this portal in my personal sun room ideal for catching its afternoon rays.  Mr Sol's reticence to become a player reminds me of the taller peep's slow wakening in the morning:  he may be mobile, but the result might best be described as quasi-sleep-walking.

in the gloaming

Me-usings and Me-emories

13 Sep 2022 - Either my peeps are sitting down to dinner later or the sun is leaving us earlier... but even in twilight my keen vision can catch sneaky interlopers.  Any opportunity to be on my personal deck is grabbed, even if pools of sunshine aren't on offer... plus the stillness of the closing hours allows me to hear each and every dropping pinecone, a signal that squeeps are afoot... and sometimes underfoot, as I can spot them between the cracks in the decking.  Unfortunately the separation between the boards isn't wide enough for a paw, or I would shake a fist at them.

spare some change?

Shamus on view

Me-usings and Me-emories

12 Sep 2022 - The shorter peep describes the recent turn as yo-yo weather.  I'm unfamiliar with the term, but sometimes the door to my personal deck is open and sometimes it is not.  I am less inclined to grumble if abundant sunshine is featured, but I can sense the cooler air biding its time on the far side of the glass.  This development is not what I wanted, but since infancy we all have had to recognize that what we want isn't always high in nature's priorities. So I use my time scouting out interlopers and seeking out warm spots (on the theory that interlopers think similarly).  Otherwise I'm tucking my paws beneath my body.

11 Sep 2022 - Taking a bath in a cold space isn't for everyone, and certainly not me.  We cats are fastidious creatures, but good grooming shouldn't lead to one's catching pneumonia.  If there is a pool of sunshine, then I enjoy this multi-daily ritual.  And you must admit, every wash room should have such a splendid view... further encouragement to put my cleanest paw forward.  Twisting and turning, sometimes perched on three limbs, I negotiate this narrow ledge without giving the feat a second thought... possibly if I did focus on the physical particulars, I would plunk to the floor (but land on my feet).

Me-usings and Me-emories

10 Sep 2022 - In?  out?... I can't make up my mind, which could explain why I wander through this portal countless times in a day.  The "other" side offers warmth, an elevated cushion with a wide-angle view, plus an out-of-the-fray location for relaxing.  Meanwhile, inside is where my peeps hang out... with their offers of treats, combing, and escort onto my personal deck.  Is it any wonder why my gray matter vacillates between the two options?  If I'm willing to log lots of steps, I can have both... which doesn't happen often in real life.

9 Sep 2022 - Editor isn't included on my resumé, as it is a volunteer job that requires little time.  At this point in our relationship the shorter peep knows me well enough, certainly well enough to maintain my public persona.  Beyond that, does anyone truly grasp the innermost makings of an individual?  My two continue to surprise me with their actions/inactions, and by the look on their faces I manage to amaze (and perhaps I take it as a challenge to do the unpredicted).  If I were a typist, even the two-fingered sort, I would be tempted to start a blog documenting the exploits of my two... it couldn't help but be a hoot.
