heedless (headless?)

Shamus on view

Me-usings and Me-emories

17 Sep 2024 - We cats are always curious what is on the other side of a door, especially the ones that are closed.  I've been known to meow for peep assistance in opening these portals, and even better when it yields to a bit of push from the head or paw.  Often the effort nets very little new news, but as guardian of our domicile I must investigate... because the one time I am lax in my duties will be the day that a ginormous interloper lies in wait, requiring all three of us to extract it.

galling empire

16 Sep 2024 - That bobbed ear gives me away.  I really need a purriscope, but without an opposable thumb how would I hold it?  Despite my obvious peering around the door jamb, that cheeky squeep chowed down on seeds.  With these cooler temperatures I understand the need to keep the furnace stoked, but its presence just beyond a paw's reach is irksome.  Maybe that is why it sits atop the feeder, munching away, sometimes even dozing... to get my goat (and it is succeeding).

how now

Shamus on view

Me-usings and Me-emories

15 Sep 2024 - As you can see, my personal sun room is emerging from chaos, thanks to the taller peep (of course he is the one who messed it up in the first place).  There are still large stretches of the day where the din is more than my ears can stand, but on the edges of the day it is mine to claim.  Fortunately our domicile offers other comfy spots for me to curl up, although most of them don't offer Mr. Sol's full benefit.  The important thing is right now this southern corner is mine.

safe keeping

Me-usings and Me-emories

14 Sep 2024 - Mr. Sol is calling it a day, and the deck, now in afternoon shadows, is cooling.  You might guess that from my hunched pose, paws tucked beneath me.  Despite the chill, there are nattering beeps floating past our shore.  Although I can't verify my suspicions, I would bet the lake isn't bathtub warm... certainly I am not detecting any heat rising from its surface.  Even with all that visible wetness beyond my personal screened deck, I am quite content with a tongue-washing (it has nothing in common with a tongue-lashing).

on account of

13 Sep 2024 - For reasons beyond my understanding, I am not supposed to be atop this piece of furniture.  While it is true that I've never seen my two peeps walk, or even sit, on this sturdy top, I figured they had their reasons that didn't involve me.  But I do recognize the shorter peep's I-mean-business voice, so I scampered away, to claim a spot on the "approved" list.  Of course what I do when those two aren't watching will be my little secret... meanwhile I want everyone to be happy.

know-where

Shamus on view

Me-usings and Me-emories

12 Sep 2024 - Thank you, Mr. Sol!  If you want to find the warmest spot in the domicile, just follow the cat.  My patrol takes me into many chilly out-of-the-way spots, closets without windows, corners hidden behind furniture, so I need to know where I can soak up some heat.  But the world doesn't stand still, which means that this intense block of light will drift away from my chosen nap site, narrowing to a slit that then winks out... not how I would organize the show at all (but, alas, I am only in charge of the interlopers).

enough already

Shamus on view

Me-usings and Me-emories

11 Sep 2024 - What is happening in my personal sun room?  The taller peep has been demolishing, rearranging, to the point that my nap times have been greatly impacted.  This space is favored when the outside temperatures are unwelcoming, so to have it occupied by unfamiliar things with hard surfaces and sharp corners is a major aggravation.  But I won't give up possession until driven out by the din... it assaults my ears if not his.  In the past these fixit-episodes have eventually reached their conclusion, so I remain hopeful.
