Me-ow-my-oh!

Me-usings and Me-emories

30 January 2015 - Humor can be difficult to get:  expressions that do not mean what the individual words suggest, pop-culture and historical references that fly over one's head, the make-up of the speaker's funny bone that impacts interpretation.  When a language barrier is added, I am amazed that a joke can be recognized.  So I am not sure how to react to my shorter peep's insistence that this thing at my feet is a mouse.  I have intimate knowledge of these rodents:  their shape, their smell, their squeak...and this black lump fails on all points.  Is she trying to be funny?  I hope that my noncommittal expression conveys just the right amount of <yawn> boredom.

Me-usings and Me-emories

29 January 2015 - If you were 10% of my size, this pose would produce great trembling of the limbs and the strong urge for flight.  But the shorter peep just smiles and eggs me on, meanwhile holding that small metal box between her body and mine.  At first the appearance of this silver contraption put me on alert:  What was its purpose exactly?  Should I attack it?  But after much exposure I have concluded that it doesn't suck the soul or do anything really worthwhile... not unlike the see-through things that the peeps wear on their faces occasionally...an affectation is my guess.   Anyway the world is way too serious, so if my feels-so-good stretch makes my two grin, then I'm all for it.

Me-usings and Me-emories

28 January 2015 - I would be miffed if my peeps purchased me a little sweater, even more so if they expected me to wear it.  I have seen just how far the craziness can go with dim deeps and their outfits, and I have no desire to participate.  You might believe that the photograph to the right is evidence to the contrary, but you would be wrong.  Firstly, I am not wearing anything but my Bastet-given fur, and secondly, I did not request to be snuggled in the shorter peep's jacket.  It was all her idea:  she was cold, ergo I must be as well.  It did not take any skin off my nose to be gracious.

Me-usings and Me-emories

27 January 2015 - I have acquired the reputation of being stand-offish, which is a barbed way of saying that I am shy...to which I do admit.  My difficulty around strangers eases with geologic time, but most peeps aren't willing to wait for me to come around.  They...so typical...want acknowledgement immediately upon offering their hand for a sniff.  If I don't trot over pronto, then the hand is withdrawn and I am labeled unfriendly.  I can't please them and please myself, so the outcome is predictable.  At least there are two peeps that understand.

26 January 2015 - To quote a friend, "enjoy that sweet lemon sunshine."  It only takes a day without blue skies for me to miss its warming presence.  Even in the heat of summer I have been known to lie in its pool, but how very much its sunny disposition is appreciated in chilly January.  Those unfortunates who live in more northerly latitudes, where winter takes itself seriously, would love to have this cheerful light streaming through their windows.  But they are there, and I am here...and that makes all the difference.

25 January 2015 - Sometimes events don't turn out as expected.  I am usually the one peering at the world from a lofty position, but here the table is turned...to my surprise.  I honestly don't credit peeps with much 3-D awareness.  Unless it moves, peep eyes don't register something that is more than two feet above their heads.  That invisible horizontal plane, another type of glass ceiling, demarcates the extent of their upward vision.  Peeps would be easy prey with this limited awareness.  All one of my big cousins would have to do is bide his time on a leafy perch, and await the clueless fatted calf.

24 January 2015 - Weather is anything but dependable.  One day it offers pools of sunshine, the next day is a variation on gray.  There is no need for a show of paws as to which I prefer.  But having said that, I suppose it is fortunate that our weather isn't the dictate of a democracy:  the majority's mind-set would parch us into the likes of the Atacama Desert.  Don't forget that even in Camelot it rained...after sundown.

Me-usings and Me-emories

23 January 2015 - I don't buy the equating of messy office to messy mind.  I am certain that there are examples of such, but a few data points do not make a proof.  In my particular case, I ascribe the managed chaos to having busy peeps.  The universe favors disorganization, so a tidy space is "unnatural"...by that I mean one has to continually work to keep it that way.  And how would you like to spend your allotted time, given you don't have nine lives in which to cram it all in?  It's your choice.

22 January 2015 - The hands of my shorter peep come highly recommended.  They give super belly rubs and spine realignments, but the thing that makes my eyes roll back in the head are the chin chucks.  The area around my nose and mouth require more finesse than the claws can manage, so she is truly sent by Bastet.  If you have ever experienced an itch in a spot that you can't reach, then you know firsthand the bliss of an assist.  No lottery scratch off has better returns.

19 January 2015 - Which came first?  the need to tongue-wash one's lower back, or the ability to do so.  I don't know if "contortionist" is apt, but we cats definitely have supple spines... perhaps since our four-footedness doesn't give gravity the opportunity to fuse the vertebrae together.  A column of sedimentary rock, hardened over time by the weight above pressing down, is not what one wants for a spine.  Most of the time we felines think nothing of being able to form a corkscrew with our bodies, and focus instead on what we can't do...like use a can-opener.  That would be something to remark upon.

18 January 2015 - I have a toy mouse that lives in the change jar at the foot of the bed.  Ninety-nine percent of the time I ignore his presence:  I rarely am in the mood to "play" and Meep's interest factor peaked long ago.  But sometimes the urge hits me to retrieve him from the nickels and dimes, give him a toss...and then usually the urge has been satisfied.  Occasionally the first thing that I pull out of the jar is a coin, and that makes a very loud clatter on the table top when I drop it...which is a bonus side-effect.  Obviously I have learned how to entertain myself.

Me-ow-my-oh!

Me-usings and Me-emories

17 January 2015 - It is said of the older version of my shorter peep that she can look at a stick until it moves.  I doubt that any peep's sensory abilities can top a cat's, so I am trying the experiment.  Residing in a fairly tidy domicile, I was unable to locate a stick, so I am testing my psychokinetic abilities on this ink pen.  Prior to the taking of this photograph I am certain that I witnessed motion, but the scientific method rightly requires replication... so here I am, deep into concentration.  Of course it is also said that watching an experiment changes the outcome...which essentially nixes the possibility of a corroborating picture.  You will just have to trust my findings.

16 January 2015 -  Two heats are better than one for staying warm these chilly mornings, and for that I am grateful to have a peep lap in which to curl.  However, since my everyday body temperature is higher than hers (101.5 versus 98.6), I should point out that she benefits more than I in this arrangement.  Yet big-hearted fellow that I am, here I sit, content to give more than receive.
