30 January 2015 - Humor can be difficult to get:  expressions that do not mean what the individual words suggest, pop-culture and historical references that fly over one's head, the make-up of the speaker's funny bone that impacts interpretation.  When a language barrier is added, I am amazed that a joke can be recognized.  So I am not sure how to react to my shorter peep's insistence that this thing at my feet is a mouse.  I have intimate knowledge of these rodents:  their shape, their smell, their squeak...and this black lump fails on all points.  Is she trying to be funny?  I hope that my noncommittal expression conveys just the right amount of <yawn> boredom.
