don't speak to strangers

Me-ow-my-oh!

Me-usings and Me-emories

28 February 2015 - I don't suffer from ochlophobia, but I don't enjoy a crowd of peeps...and for me three is a crowd.  The clamor  makes me quite anxious, and the big-footed swarm is dangerous for any living thing smaller than an ottoman...so I do myself a favor and remove myself to a quiet spot until the numbers approach two.  Last night's hoopla trapped me in the bedroom for hours and used up several days' worth of patience, but I outlasted the last to depart.  It seems not unreasonable to expect a little attention after an evening of being ignored.  After all I was here first.

Me-usings and Me-emories

27 February 2015 - Doesn't everyone like a good mystery?  Plus noir, the better?  Well, "for now we see through a glass, darkly"...such poetry, inspiring even Ingmar Bergman (such a cheerful fellow).  But I can make out the two me's quite easily, and I especially like the parenthetical tails, mismatched of course.  But what am I doing, you might ask?  At this removed point I can't remember, so any answer is correct.  The next time you are walking through a shadowy place, just be aware you might not be alone.

Me-ow-my-oh!

Me-usings and Me-emories

26 February 2015 - There haven't been any recent photos that document my ordinariness, so here I am on a post-humpday work day.  I don't like nor dislike my job:  as for most folks it is simply a fact of life, and depending upon the economic times a lucky, if not bright, bit of circumstance.  The way to make anything more palatable is to take the long view, so I seek the funny in the irritating, the pleasant in the same-old.  I know my worth, even if it isn't reflected in my pay stub.

25 February 2015 - Here I am, leaping from one building top to another, defying gravity, denying death...well, that is how it went in my dream.  It was an awesome sensation that I regretted waking from.  I wonder if beeps appreciate their ability to fly.  Probably not, for what is ordinary can seldom be perceived as extraordinary...which is a pity.  Although the lifted tail detracts from my aerodynamic lines, it does serve as a vertical stabilizer.

sunny side up

Me-ow-my-oh!

Me-usings and Me-emories

24 February 2015 - The background is overexposed, but even so the photograph is a keeper:  I see bright sunshine and infer basking warmth.  This time of year I vacillate between removing my coat and huddling in it.  I suppose soon enough the weather will settle into sameness, and I (nor my peeps) will not miss the cold temperatures.  In regards winter I have little tolerance, and this year's version is really testing my patience.  Why should the flighty behavior of a groundhog eight hundred miles away ruin my day?

22 February 2015 - There clearly is no language barrier here, just an uncooperative door between me and where I want to be.  Having to wait until some passing peep notices me and then nonchalantly makes his/her way over riles my hairballs...but what am I to do?  The only thing I can do:  draw upon my patience reserves, and beseech Bastet to intercede on my behalf.  Of course, Bastet is a busy deity, so I don't really expect to observe the clouds part and a deep caterwaul sound forth...however, that would be really cool.

Me-ow-my-oh!

Me-usings and Me-emories

21 February 2015 - It is sometimes challenging to maintain my egocentric view of the world.  That I am the only cat of this domicile helps (although I have had to convince many interlopers of this fact), but then my human satellites begin to drift off course...their attention spans are that of a gnat...and I have to swat them back into proper orbit.  I suppose it is just the universe reminding me that chaos reigns, but I won't allow entropy to rain on my ticker-tape parade.  Even benign dictators deserve recognition and expect respect.

19 February 2015 - I haven't turned blue...yet, but I do not care at all for the next twenty-four hours' forecast.  I have said it before, but the truth can't be overstated:  I am a Florida cat.  We enjoy lolling in 95+ degree weather, but Santa and his reindeer can keep this arctic stuff.  I can tell my peeps are of a like mind:  their fingers and their noggins are the only things exposed to this abominable weather.  And speaking of, I truly hope, with paws crossed, that this is the closest I will ever get to a snowman.

Me-usings and Me-emories

18 February 2015 - If I wasn't supposed to investigate, then the peep should not have left the bag, open and inviting, on the bed.  You would have done the same thing, so no finger-wagging.  My nose automatically picks up alien smells, and my experience tells me that different could mean trouble. I would not forgive myself if I ignored my instincts and the thing actually turned out to be dangerous.  So without thought to my own safety, I checked the contents...this time we are safe.

17 February 2015 - Without a remote control, I have to change windows to get different channels on CAT TV.  Here is my version of Kit at Nite, where reception depends upon having good low-light perception.  Occasionally the peeps stumble over me in the dark, so I am guessing that they simply can't see well under those dimly-lit conditions.  But I can, and the cast of characters that parade past my screen is varied and entertaining.  So each evening,  just before the shorter peep turns in, I find myself checking out the show.  Sometimes it is a hoot...literally.

Me-ow-my-oh!

Me-usings and Me-emories

16 February 2015 - Today one of my peep's peeps posted the twelve signs of cat ownership...which is not implying that we are mere possessions but rather the possessors.  One of the items stated that "any window is now CAT TV".  I do enjoy my big-screen television, especially in the spring when all the nitwit beeps fight their reflections.  This time of year my perch is also a good deal warmer than outdoors.  However if it truly were CAT TV, shouldn't it come with a remote control?  There are times when I really would like to change the channel.

15 February 2015 - Cats and chocolate are a bad combination, so I was not expecting a heart-shaped box of candy.  However I had hoped for some small token of appreciation, but the day began and ended like so many others <sigh>.  Fortunately my self-worth is not predicated upon peep admiration.  My ancestors came down out of the trees long before theirs did.  I am still king of all that I survey...even so it is lonely at the top.

Me-ow-my-oh!

Me-usings and Me-emories

13 February 2015 - Cats are natural hunters, and even a house-bound life doesn't change our predisposition to stalk, to pounce, to slay.  Nothing focuses our attention and dilates our pupils like a quiver of movement.  It doesn't matter if the cause is a mole excavating its tunnel or a peep hand darting beneath the covers, we are engaged, claws ready to rake and reveal.  When we are in the heat of battle, we are blood-thirsty, so be forewarned.  Don't attempt a head pat or a belly rub until the wildness passes.
