Me-usings and Me-emories

24 April 2016 - Those videos of cats guarding stairways are very funny, based on my reaction and the great number of hits they receive.  Part of the hilarity is the size differential between the cowed dim deep and the dwarfed defender.  One has to wonder if the fear was learned when both creatures were still young and virtually the same size.  The dim deep's ancestral connection to a wolf has been long forgotten...at least in those few that were the butt of the film clips.  Since I do not share my abode with anyone but the two peeps, I have not had the opportunity to try out my intimidation skills...but I still practice.

Me-usings and Me-emories

23 April 2016 - Serious or sleepy - which is it?  This picture reminds me of those politicians and military figures of a past era that posed with one hand at the breast, eyes turned to the horizon.  I can assure you that I have no interest in expanding my empire or claiming your natural resources.  We cats are a contented lot:  as long as our minimal needs are met, we do not long for different or more.  That, unfortunately, is not my observation of peep behavior (present company excepted).

Me-usings and Me-emories

21 April 2016 - In case you have ever wondered, we cats do dream…which is why sometimes our whiskers twitch and paws flex.  Just recently I was relaxing into a bit of reverie, that took a scary turn…and I quickly abandoned the story line:  I was guarding the beep feeder, insuring that the squeeps didn't steal the seeds.  The sunlight was almost white, the air was warm…you can understand why this dream had such promise.  But then silence descended - the back-and-forth of beep calls ceased, and an ominous dread entered my body.  As you know, my hearing is quite good, so perceiving no sound is unnerving.  I had the impression of stealth in the bushes, out of sight but getting closer…a large presence that was watching, interested, dangerous.  I did not want to see how that concluded, so I willed myself awake.  Thankfully the curious part of me lost the vote.

Me-usings and Me-emories

21 April 2016 - Kindness is a wonderful trait to possess, but its worth is only realized when it is given to others. And you should start with yourself...how else will you know its value?  So when I am feeling less than 100%, I acknowledge my need for repose and permit, without malice or condemnation, myself to rest.  Whoever started the rumor that naps are just for the very young and very old was probably a bigwig who viewed peons as means to his money-making end.  Well, this fat cat is on to that self-serving scheme:  Snoozers, unite!

20 April 2016 - If I had a dollar for every minute that I waited...but then, what would I buy with my fortune?  My needs are already met, albeit sloooowly, and what I want can't be found on Amazon.  Although the first store that can deliver a truckload of peace and quiet would be one to buy stock in.  It would certainly get my patronage.  There is just one small hitch:  turning my expected (i.e., earned) wages into actual cash.  I have a strong feeling that my peeps are going to require a hard sell.

Me-ow-my-oh!

Me-usings and Me-emories

19 April 2016 - At the mature age of twelve, I am more and more content to observe nature from the inside of a plate glass.  I came from out there, and in my youth alternated between inside and outside, enjoying my freedom to choose where and when.  But without any conscious decision I am now almost exclusively a house cat.  I still have the option, but there is no urgency to wander the woods.  The view from this ledge actually gives me a much better overview than ground surveillance ever would.  Whaddya know?  I have lived and learned.

don't panic

Me-ow-my-oh!

Me-usings and Me-emories

18 April 2016 - Oh, my goodness, what happened last night?  I knew something was up, when the peeps rearranged the furniture, but I had no idea the magnitude of the invasion until the noise level became impossible to ignore.  I made a quick retreat, and didn't reemerge until silence once again descended upon the house.  Sometimes I will venture amongst the crowd, scout from the perimeter, check that my two are not in harm's way...but it was every cat for himself last evening.  I will be very glad when the furnishings are back where they belong, as I don't handle change very well.
