man of the our

Me-ow-my-oh!

Me-usings and Me-emories

8 April 2017 - Despite the existence of Catalina, no feline is entirely an island.  True, we prefer our own company, but like most introverts enjoy small (calm) groups.  There is no such thing as the perfect companion, but if one finds a good personality match, then togetherness can be enjoyable.  There are times that I walk alone, but when I need a head pat or chin chuck or body warmth, then I know just where to head.

chum along

Me-ow-my-oh!

Me-usings and Me-emories

6 April 2017 - This monotone to the right could have been an action shot... but I changed my mind.  I really was hoping for a leg-up (isn't that clear from my body English and the tilt of my head?), but the shorter peep headed off in the opposite direction.  Since she and I keep tight company in the morning, I followed along, foregoing my bowl of kibble until later.  While the house is still quiet, we two check the weather forecast, catch up on emails, read the latest facebook postings.  Of course I am not the one at the keyboard, but from my lap position I encourage and inspire.

trivial pursuits

Me-ow-my-oh!

Me-usings and Me-emories

5 April 2017 - Two days ago I was recovering behind my peep's monitor; today I am greeting the world (although not so foolish as to challenge it).  One's mood resembles the weather:  up and down, blue-skies, threatening clouds, calm, stormy.  Although commenting about the weather doesn't seem to affect the forecast, unloading your cares is guaranteed to improve one's day.  We cats are very fortunate in that we can let things go, rather than keeping them inside to fester.  This statement is neither an admission of forgetting or forgiving... merely that we acknowledge the irritating issue and then elect to move on.  Even a cycle of nine lives is too short.

the calm before the storm

Me-ow-my-oh!

Me-usings and Me-emories

4 April 2017 - Some of you are happy tumbleweeds, others homebodies.  One's desire to see the world falls somewhere on that spectrum, and isn't necessarily constant.  As you would guess, I favor vicarious experience of our planet.  Mostly I practice turning my back to all its mindless spinning.  Our yard is my playground, and I don't require a fence to bound my wanderings.  You are welcome to hop on the moving train, but don't take offense if I am not excited by your reckless choices... and I am definitely not envious.

down shifting

Me-ow-my-oh!

Me-usings and Me-emories

3 April 2017 - We all have our limits.  The trick is recognizing when we have reached that precipice.  How we react while teetering on the edge reveals our character.  Over-stimulation is my bugaboo, and all of my introverted readers will nod in sympathy.  The way I handle jangled nerves is to retreat into quiet.  Fortunately for me I live with low-key peeps, who share my dislike of noise, so finding a haven isn't that difficult.  Ten undisturbed minutes is generally all that is required to rejuvenate my defenses, and I am ready, perhaps not eager, to reenter the world.

whippy snappers

Me-ow-my-oh!

Me-usings and Me-emories

2 April 2017 - Sometimes, after a milestone birthday, one needs to "prove" to oneself that one still "has it".  This morning I easily lifted a leg behind my head, no sweat involved, so I have set worry aside for another year.  Several times a week my peeps check their agility, standing on one leg, twisting the spine... but I have never witnessed either of them with a foot hooked around the neck.  Possibly this means that the pose is beyond them, maybe it means that I missed the show.  However other observations tell me that they will never have a career as contortionists.

laud he, laud he

Me-ow-my-oh!

Me-usings and Me-emories

1 April 2017 - I think that I have been played:  "Put down ribbons, and he will come", the shorter peep schemed... and sure enough, I couldn't resist the trap.  Oh, well, today is my birthday, so I am up for a bit of celebration.  No foolin', it could be #13 (or maybe that was last year?).  No one was around to mark the date when I emerged, and I have long since lost connections with my birth family.  Since I don't have a learner's permit to look forward to, I may just remain thirteen in perpetuity.  And since I am a cat, that is entirely possible.
