a pique of rankled peepers

Me-ow-my-oh!

Me-usings and Me-emories

15 February 2017 - I hope this picture doesn't give you vertigo.  We cats have no issue with heights, but some peeps break out in a sweat when they approach the edge of a precipice.  Why, I am even "hanging ten", although in truth the count is probably only eight.  My reason for gazing out the window is that yesterday's mail brought no valentines.  I am ready to blame slow delivery, rather than lukewarm friends, for the omission.. so it is conceivable that a red envelope will appear today.  My self-esteem isn't on the line here, but you may not be aware that we cats can hold grudges.

warm hearth

Me-ow-my-oh!

Me-usings and Me-emories

14 February 2017 - Recent mornings have been invigorating, i.e., one must do calisthenics to keep the core temperature up.  But the body can benefit from some gentle stretching.  Should one need to sprint for the back door, one wouldn't want to strain a hamstring.  I try to keep myself in good shape, but we all have our weaknesses... mine is butter.  The shorter peep refuses to indulge my fondness for dairy products, but the taller one understands the need (and occasionally colludes).  I can still outrun the both of them, which sometimes comes in handy.

just might

Me-ow-my-oh!

Me-usings and Me-emories

13 February 2017 - Yes, I am considering it.  I have seen young peeps delight in sliding down banisters, but one gets quite a sense of accomplishment gliding up one, clock ticking.  Of course the feat is preceded by a jump from floor to the four-inch-wide handrail.  And if there are spectators, I don't want it to be a scramble:  "nail it" in gymnasts' lingo.  Then there is a distance of five feet or so, at a rising angle of forty degrees, to scale... gravity trying to undo you at each progressive step.  It is a younger cat's game that I now occasionally indulge in... but I think not today.

12 February 2017 - Weekday, weekend... it is all the same to me.  I live with two peeps who no longer commute to work (unless climbing stairs counts), so time is rather loose at our casa.  But if one is hooked into the community at all, one can feel the difference.  For example athletic events are not broadcast during the afternoon except on Saturday and Sunday.  And how do I know this tidbit?  By keeping my ears attuned to the drone of the universe's symphony, I need not open my eyes.  In fact the freneticism of the weekend warriors wears me out.  So excuse me while I rest... it is after all the day for that.

Me-usings and Me-emories

11 February 2017 - If you feel under-appreciated, take some solace in knowing that you are not alone.  If you give peeps the benefit of the doubt, then they wander through their days, virtually unaware of what goes on around them.  If, like me, you feel that sentient beings should not get off so lightly, then they appear to be uninterested in who and what might have smoothed their path.  Their cluelessness is so annoying, and underscores how they mistake normal for what is actually the result of a privileged position.  I feel better already for having vented.  Now I can return to the business of keeping our domicile safe... not that they would notice.

Me-ow-my-oh!

Me-usings and Me-emories

10 February 2017 - I can't play favorites (too obviously), so now it is taller-peep-time.  Our relationship is important, especially when the shorter peep disappears for countless days.  One should always have a backup plan.  So I permit the exchange of affection, claws politely retracted, perhaps even an encouraging purr.  However the clock is ticking, and his allotted minutes will be over soon.  Meanwhile I must squelch the desire to be on my way:  enough is enough.

Me-ow-my-oh!

Me-usings and Me-emories

9 February 2017 - Once in a while I need to shore up the shorter peep's raison d'etre.  After all, when she is happy, I am happy as well.  It is a small thing for me to grace her lap for five minutes, but she always brightens up.  I have observed that when she sits in this particular chair, she grows more and more dispirited.  We don't want that!  I need her bounding up and down the stairs, refilling my bowl and assisting my entry/exit.  If a bit of preventive care is what is needed, the doctor is in.
