the taming of the shrewd

Me-ow-my-oh!

Me-usings and Me-emories

2 November 2017 - There is a reason that ambushes are staged in a mountain pass or desert canyon.  A sentry's duty is much simpler if the enemy is corralled into a narrow passageway.  Our domicile doesn't have such dramatic geographic features, but we do have lots of steps.  By napping at the head of a stairway, I am aware, even with my eyes closed, of who enters and who leaves the space.  From the speed at which they pass and the weight of their footfalls, I can also gauge the temperament of the situation, from weary to eager, from anxious to relaxed.  The stairs also provide a means for my own exit, should there be a loud explosion nearby.
