17 July 2018 - Patrolling from the fire tower or the deck (or the office window) is good for mixing up one's surveillance, but nothing can beat paws on the ground.  Walking the yard's perimeter leaves an olfactory "no trespassing" warning, that the wise interloper should heed.  Plus I can read the tell-tale signs of the unwise, note their entry points, gauge the nature of their business (scarfing beep seeds, scouting out a winter residence, etc.), and modify my route and my tactics.  To be predictable is to be second-rate.
