lacking

Me-usings and Me-emories

10 Oct 2022 - All the recent wear-and-tear finally caught up with me... and I had a most restful, overly long nap.  We all benefit from an undisturbed period of rest... free of burdens and worries, as if we were once again kits with a fearsome momma looking over us.  Alas, Bastet keeps her objective distance and certainly isn't as emotionally demonstrative as her devotees sometimes need.  But if a dream can be worked into the sleep, a dream in which I have super-powers perhaps or am acclaimed as the kindly jungle-king, both revered and respected... then the shortfalls of my wakeful existence can be temporarily overlooked.

9 Oct 2022 - My frenemy has discovered that I am back in residence!  Word of my return has somehow leaked out, because my paws have not been out there, leaving their print and scent.  I had hoped that my months-long absence would cause him to "move on", to find another cat to torment... but this fella (orange no less, can you get any further from a tuxedo??) has a persistent memory, an annoying interloper trait.  We cats recognize opportunity, and were I roaming my neighborhood I would likewise take advantage of two kindly peeps and an elevated walkway... that incidentally happen to belong to a comrade with a cushy life.  Yes, yes, I understand this guy's motivations... but I still don't like him.

8 Oct 2022 - I love my early-morning rounds, when the landscape is still and the interlopers are sleepy-eyed.  Although I am quite certain this domicile is the one known for its sultry heat, since my thank-Bastet arrival the days have begun quite chilly... but I'm so glad to be back on my personal screened porch that you'll hear no complaints from me (for a while anyway).  I still am wearing my medium-weight fur coat from my northern stay, so I am mostly dressed for this weather.  And that will have to suffice:  my peeps know better than to dress me in sweater and socks.

something else

7 Oct 2022 - Sitting on a window ledge in bright sunshine... a cat's life doesn't get much better.  And these seats have given me the best view of all the activity around our domicile.  Yesterday strangers, bearing noisy tools, joined my two peeps... and by afternoon's end our jungle looked slightly more orderly.  At least now I have a clear view out the driveway, a prime entry point for interlopers.  Debris is being hauled to a cleared spot, visible from this ledge, where resides something akin to my northern sun-in-a-black-box, except without the black box.  I am astonished how quickly this phenomenon devours its food... even faster than me tucking into breakfast.

6 Oct 2022 - There are so many reasons why I like my southern domicile, the dominance of the sun being number one.  But here I have stairs to run up and down, interior railings upon which to sit, numerous window ledges ideal for guard duty, and many choices as to where I'll take my next nap.  Since my release from the cage, I have explored every corner, every shadowy spot, to rout any interlopers that took advantage of my absence.  Thankfully there were few trespassers, insignificant in threat level, and those had already, graciously, flipped on their backs with stiff legs in the air.  The shorter peep is in charge of clean-up and disposal... I just point out the bodies.

5 Oct 2022 - Bastet took pity on my plight:  I am home... and by that I mean my domicile with the screened porch!  My resilience quite surprises me.  However, after days and days of scary situations, I may now have a few more white hairs.  But I survived the ordeal, and have quickly reestablished my routine.  Were it not for familiar smells and landmarks, I would not recognize our periphery:  it looks even more like an impenetrable jungle.  I am uncertain what could have caused such a rearrangement (and whatever it was might explain my difficult drawn-out return), but the taller peep is out there, trying to set things right.  Meanwhile I am doing my part:  watching for interlopers.

4 Oct 2022 - If it looks like I've been sold to the zoo, you wouldn't be too far off the mark.  My suspicions that "something" was afoot were spot on:  I was dropped into this cage, and away we went.  Our destination was never revealed to me, but it wasn't my southern or northern domicile... so I feared things were only going to worsen.  And for a time that was definitely true.  The noise alone certainly claimed one of my promised lives, and everything was strange... the smells, the lay of the land... there was nothing familiar, other than the continued presence of my two peeps, for me to hang onto.  My look of despondency was justified.
