14 Jul 2023 - I am far from a princess, but sometimes a second cushion is just what I need... and besides, no one sits in this spot.  I am not sure why, as it is ideal for keeping a watch on the deck's comings and goings.  My two peeps have been very occupied out there of late, using noisy apparatus to make the space nearly unrecognizable.  I've not been permitted to join them... perhaps because I wouldn't agree to don a hard hat.  I do hope that they remember how to put it back together (and that they're quick about it).

13 Jul 2023 - Another busy night in pursuit of a trespassing meep!  By my counting, it is the third one I've had to roust (or perhaps the same one three times?)... a scant sampling of what lies beyond the domicile walls.  My job doesn't concern that hoard, but rather insuring that they remain "out there".  So when a scout enters my  domain, it has crossed the line.  Because they are so much smaller than I, the pursuit must negotiate under cabinets and behind doors.  If my long forearm can't stretch the distance, then I play the waiting game, maybe catching a bit of shut-eye as I hunker nearby, confident it will eventually emerge.

as it should be

12 Jul 2023 - Even if the shorter peep appears occupied, immersed in squiggles on paper, there is always room for me.  My small size has its perks, allowing me to fit into space, perhaps with a necessary bit of rearranging, a head butt or two, that a larger version of my kind would find difficult.  And my peep is quite accommodating, often not taking her eyes from whatever is so fascinating.  She claims not to be a multi-tasker, yet I am delighted that she can, as if second nature, scratch my ears without skipping a line.  I certainly wouldn't mind her full attention, but I understand.

11 Jul 2023 - Mother Nature can be aggravating, a spoiler of plans... not that my wish to be out on my personal deck matters in the big picture.  Today is looking like one of those best viewed through glass, perhaps even while curled in a comfy chair.  Weather setbacks are just another example of life not proceeding smoothly... it really should be expected, not surprising at all.  And that is what my rational brain makes of gray, drippy clouds.  But the emotional side of me sneers at the rain, notes that we really don't need further soaking, and longs for Mr. Sol.

10 Jul 2023 - Am I in or out?  And what do those words mean when the connecting portal is ajar?  The one sure statement is that I am where I want to be:  in a comfy chair, looking out upon my personal deck.  Of late my nights have been busier than usual, due, I suspect, to the inundation that has driven interlopers into our domicile in search of a dry haven.  The two peeps are active during the day, and their very presence (and size) is something of a deterrent to trespassers, giving me an opportunity to catch up on my interrupted sleep.

9 Jul 2023 - I need to spend a large part of my day by myself, whether I'm on the trail of interlopers or on a comfy cushion.  But that isn't to say that I don't desire peep time occasionally... especially if it occurs on my personal deck.  My peeps often take meals out there, now that Mr. Sol is a more reliable visitor, and I enjoy sharing that lakeside space with them.  There are still disturbing noises here in the hinterland, source and cause unknown, that I prefer processing as a group.  A loud bump sounds more ominous when I am the only one around... it is exactly the moment when having back-up is a good thing.

8 Jul 2023 - Can you imagine this as an Old Masters' painting?  We cats can be captured by camera, but we are not inclined to pose indefinitely for the application of oil on canvas.  Thankfully John James Audubon did not choose my species to document on his treks through my southern home.  Perhaps our general uncooperativeness explains our near absence in art... except for that of the Ancient Egyptians.  Now there is a culture I admire, but alas, like all good things, its time has come to an end.  Demotion from godhood is not something one gets over quickly.
