Me-usings and Me-emories
5 May 2015 - This photo can be disorienting, but the translucent thing near the bottom edge, in the right half of the picture, suggests the correct interpretation. Creature intelligence can be ball-parked by observing first-contact reactions to a mirror. A youngster will often take its reflection to be another of its kind, despite the lack of other sensory data to back that up. Aggressive behavior then follows: in the case of a kitten, turning sideways, bristling, and fisticuffs. Some never do figure it out, others ignore it as meaningless, and a very few use the looking glass to look...whether at "themselves" or at the refracted world.
