Me-usings and Me-emories

8 Jun 2021 - Even when relaxing, I am attuned to my ears.  One of the note-worthy transitions from semi-feral to domestic life is the refinement of noise categorization.  A stray on his own heeds every audible change, as danger is a constant threat.  But in the past year I have been slowly learning those bits of input that can be subconsciously acknowledged and dismissed.  This slackening isn't laziness on my part, just a realization that I don't need to jump whenever a pin drops.  And now that I am calmer, I realize how much stress my body was holding, and how much it was compromising my well-being.  I still can be unnecessarily startled, so work remains to be done.  Yet how much nicer are my waking hours when life is pulled back from the edge.
