Me-usings and Me-emories

18 Oct 2022 - Not wishing to be in the way (or having my tail trod upon), I favor off-the-beaten-path spots:  good sight lines, yet easily overlooked.  I have multiple such retreats in this domicile, and of course one of them is located in the office that I manage.  Here I handle lofty enough responsibilities that I don't have to know what these shelved contraptions actually do... I just supervise their use (it's a marvelous thing to be "in charge" of peeps).  Back here, behind the scene, I can consider our business plan, plot our projections, tally our fiscal health... most of which is best accomplished with eyes closed.

rumpled shan't win

17 Oct 2022 - I blend in so well with the night, a study in shadow.  And how is it that my whites are so eye-smacking?  Some of the visual effect is its contrast with my black tuxedo, but also proactive (or is it purr-active?) maintenance is a major factor.  We cats typically use mirrors for sparring practice, so it is gratifying to see photographic evidence that all that time spent grooming was well spent.  Life would have been easier if I'd arrived with black socks instead of what I have, but what is done is done... I'll just keep licking my fur, wetting my paws, and scrubbing.

choosy meowers

16 Oct 2022 - Sometimes I successfully coax the shorter peep to join me here for a nap (and occasionally she has the idea first).  My southern domicile has so many good places for curling up, that I can be consumed by the selection process and forget, for a time, that the point is to lie down and rest.  To truly take a break from my sentry work means that I am removed from interloper activity... because how can I close my eyes when the irritants are sidling along in my peripheral vision?  So an ideal spot is one that has minimal portals onto our periphery, as well as being muffled from the murmurs of plotting and planning.  Otherwise I'm not too picky.

sharing

15 Oct 2022 - My peeps and I manage to communicate without words, and usually without wandering too far into charades.  It is true that sometimes what is "heard" isn't exactly what was "said", but that can happen even when vocalizing one's thoughts... heck, even what is thought and what is uttered by the vocal cords may not exactly correspond.  So we three do okay, especially if the topic is familiar and the message simple:  like "let me out" or "I am hungry".  And if I am the intended recipient, I can understand or not, depending upon how agreeable I find the suggestion.

14 Oct 2022 - What can I say, you and I are different species.  The habits of my peeps, their likes, even their comportment, would never be mistaken as that of a cat.  Only in bedtime stories for the very young does my kind walk about on two legs and speak the Queen's English, while sporting an enviable costume... at least enviable to a little peep.  A kit would not recognize the protagonist as a purrer, with the only interest shown being to curl up on the illustration.  Even so, of course I am curious so see what the shorter peep is doing:  the domicile sentry needs to know what is going on.  Once I determine that none of my treats are on display, I can continue my patrol.

enter at your own risk

Shamus on view

Me-usings and Me-emories

13 Oct 2022 - Amazingly life manages, whether in a construction zone (as here) or a war zone.  I am known for being overly cautious, so I was quite proud of myself for seeking out breakfast under less than ideal circumstances.  And nothing suddenly shifted, the ceiling didn't collapse on my head, there were no ominous creaks... all of which reenforces my accurate assess of the risk:  I'll be less hesitant to do the same in the future.  However if there had been the slightest flutter of those bedclothes, I would have skedaddled (and not returned for quite a while).

on the lookout

Shamus on view

Me-usings and Me-emories

12 Oct 2022 - Typically I am already stirring by the time the shorter peep walks into the kitchen.  My sentry duty can be scheduled whenever, and in the early morning I like to do a perimeter check, to determine if there are high-activity areas to especially watch.  Besides, this bit of start-the-day work keeps me productively engaged while waiting for my breakfast partner.  Otherwise I might be inclined to hurry her up-and-at'em, and I've learned that peeps are often prickly when just waking up.  I filed that useful piece of information away in long-term memory... I am no dummy.
