brilliant!

Me-ow-my-oh!

Me-usings and Me-emories

31 January 2018 - I don't need a hygrometer to know that the outside humidity is low:  just notice the whiteness of light to realize it isn't being scattered by excess moisture in the air.  Personally I don't mind juicy air, as I am a lover of heat.  But I've observed that peeps start to drip (and complain) when the humidity is elevated.:  poor design IMO that may, given ten millennia, get worked out.  That projection assumes that peeps as a species last that long... they don't really strike me as long-term thinkers.  In the meantime we cats need to master the can-opener.

a sunny disposition

Me-ow-my-oh!

Me-usings and Me-emories

30 January 2018 - I assure you that is not the silhouette of Batman, but Catman I won't argue with.  It is difficult to be cheery when the sky is gray, but how easy-peasy (as a peep acquaintance would pipe) when bathed in sunshine.  Actually, when snapped I was not in the sun's spotlight, but all in due time.  For the nonce it is enough to see the outside world in warm yellow tones.  I can imagine the temperatures, along with the lumens, rising with each clock tick.  But why am I still indoors?  Excuse me, I have talked myself into a tour of the grounds.

engrossed me out

Me-ow-my-oh!

Me-usings and Me-emories

29 January 2018 - I hope that your Sunday afternoon was as satisfying as mine:  pleasant temperatures, house windows open, phone strangely quiet.  The shorter peep joined me briefly, but then no one should compete in (and expect to win) a snoozing contest with a cat.  A restful, reflective Sunday is truly the way to handle a Monday with minimal stress.  If you have really done your weekend homework, you might even coast into Tuesday on all those good vibes.  Trust me... I have done the research.

empty promises

Me-ow-my-oh!

Me-usings and Me-emories

28 January 2018 - Some peeps are grumpy before their first cup of coffee.  The shorter peep and I can't function effectively until we have had our breakfast.  Some mornings I spend fifteen minutes, or more, reminding her of this fact, that she needs to rise and feed the engine (hers and mine).  There is a long stretch overnight of no caloric intake, and although sleep doesn't appear to expend many calories, the mere functioning of the body, and additionally on chilly nights keeping warm,  uses up reserves.  So yes, she and I are hungry in the morning:  don't come between me and my saucer of chow.

Me-usings and Me-emories

27 January 2018 - There is still some green in an otherwise blackened yard... even some stubborn sorts that are blooming.  Their efforts are much appreciated, as it makes me think that spring isn't too far off.  I am certainly not complaining about today:  the lovely weather even had my peeps out in the yard with rakes and a wheelbarrow.  I thought it wise to keep an eye on them, while maintaining a safe distance from all the activity... I wouldn't want to be in the way.

Me-ow-my-oh

Me-usings and Me-emories

26 January 2018 - On the national stage, an open-door policy isn't currently very popular.  However, I am an ardent supporter of entry and exit freed from the tyranny of the "pet door".  There may be devotees among my kind of this help-yourself portal, but I don't know any.  We cats are just too dignified to push ourselves through... it aligns with party-crashing, and we definitely are not desirous of barging in and having all eyes turn to stare, eyebrows arched in disdain.  On the other hand, if the door is opened for us, then we can be certain that it is what the universe wants.  It is an important distinction.

cinder fella's glass skipper

Me-ow-my-oh!

Me-usings and Me-emories

25 January 2018 - Are those wet footprints coming toward the front door?  You can see why this spot is great for surveillance, especially on a less-than-ideal morning.  The amazing thing is that intruders seldom notice me perched on the window ledge.  Unless I tap the glass, they are so focused on the world immediately around them, that they don't lift their chins to see what lurks above.  That very observation is why security cameras and webcams go undetected;  only the professional sneaks are aware of the blind spots in an approach route.  These days it isn't sufficient to come on little cat feet, you need to be invisible as well.

Me-ow-my-oh!

Me-usings and Me-emories

24 January 2017 - Doesn't this picture make you drowsy?  Sunshine glancing off the pillow, my sinking into the softness:  just visualizing the scene made me want a nap... so I took one.  I wouldn't call it "beauty rest" (that would suggest there is room for improvement), but down time definitely does the body good, in particular the noggin.  If you can hardly keep your eyes open, are having difficulty following a train of thought, are feeling thick-headed, why should you ignore the symptoms?  Lie down, not for heaven's sake but for your own.

Me-usings and Me-emories

23 January 2018 - Evenings are the shorter peep's wind-down time (the taller peep is another story).  Having kept a pace all day long, her fuel gauge is now approaching empty.  She often can be found on this level, often in this very chair... typically reading.  But she will slide the book to one side to accommodate me.  Although she is seldom still for very long (unless asleep), I can usually get ten to fifteen minutes of lap time... for which I am most grateful.  How can one beat a heated bed that includes a head-scratcher as well?  My current life will be hard to top.

22 January 2018 - I don't know what tomorrow, or the next day, will bring, but two days of being able to dally on the screened porch is fine with me... perhaps we have turned the corner toward spring?  I don't want to jinx the possibility by uttering these words aloud, not that I think Mother Nature is listening (or cares what I want).  Besides, we are frequently reminded to live in the moment, which is what I am attempting to do.  Even the beeps seem to be rejuvenated by these warmer temperatures.  I will just hang out here and listen to their chorus... and refrain from adding my voice to their song.

Me-ow-my-oh!

Me-usings and Me-emories

21 January 2018 - Life, even for us tuxedos, isn't just black and white... although you can understand why I'm partial to that world view.  There are many things which I neither love nor hate; "meh" so perfectly describes this in-between stuff.  But the lukewarm parts of our lives serve a valuable function:  imagine an uninterrupted stretch of detestable events (how depressing to consider); now imagine day-in-day-out euphoria (how exhausting that would be).  The emotional center is a quiet place where thoughts can be examined, where things can get done, where sleep can be untroubled.  Finding a gray hair would be a bummer, but otherwise gray is okay.

Me-ow-my-oh!

Me-usings and Me-emories

20 January 2018 - The typical peep guard walks the sidewalks, occasionally his gaze sweeping around him.  Not me!  I willingly go off-path, because I know that is where things hide, where things bide their time until it is safe to emerge.  So I stir up the mix:  often my very presence causes a camouflaged individual to bolt from its cover.... and I am there to hasten it off the premises.  I am most fortunate to have a job that combines the comfort of a desk (particularly if the chair is cushioned) with the freedom of the outdoors (hooray for sunshine upon my back).  Yes, ma'am, reporting for duty!

Me-ow-my-oh!

Me-usings and Me-emories

19 January 2018 - In order to thrive we all need physical contact:  a reassuring pat, a you're-okay rustle of the hair.  The shorter peep is especially adept at making my eyes roll up in their sockets, with her chucking of my chin.  I can reach this area of my body with a back paw, but somehow it isn't the same.  I admit that, while this is occurring, my responsibilities as house guardian drift to the back of my brain.  If she were a sinister character, I would suspect that that effect is her intention.  I just hope the bad guys don't arrive during one of these sessions.
