turn a deaf ear

18 Dec 2023 - The shorter peep and I watched the black box last night... well, she watched and I napped in her lap.  Evidently she enjoyed the entertainment, as I had quite a long uninterrupted stretch of her not moving.  In fact I am a black-box fan only because of these consequences.  Perhaps if there were strong cat characters and cat-centric plots, my interest would be held.  Instead I tune out its noise, and focus upon those sounds that could impact the safety of us and our domicile.  Sometimes I get fooled, and mistake a black-box wail for a local distress call... but it doesn't happen often.

16 Dec 2023 - Peace is a great concept that doesn't get realized often enough.  But the word gets used frequently this time of year (my ears are always listening), perhaps even with heartfelt sincerity.  The snafu is that the universe seems to prefer chaos, and indeed "whatever" may be an easier state to maintain.  But as a cat that chooses quiet over noise, orderliness over hodgepodge, I am rooting for a few moments of calm.  It would be thrilling if that could be achieved world-wide, but I probably will have to settle for the immediate area.

15 Dec 2023 - Yes, I am in that picture, but very hard to spot... just like I like it.  Of late the days have passed slowly:  without peeps around to break the silence, provoke a skedaddle, make a fuss over me, I only have work and naps to fill the time.  There probably isn't a square foot of our domicile's interior that I've not visited in my patrol, and even revisiting each spot my day isn't overbooked.  The crazy beep still attacks the westerly portal, so if I'm bored I will sit on the window ledge and watch its antics.  Eventually (although I do get a bit anxious about it actually happening) I detect activity at the back door, and I race to see if it's the arrival of the shorter peep or an unwelcome interloper.

13 Dec 2023 - I haven't seen the taller peep lately, and the shorter peep has been leaving me in charge of the domicile for long stretches of the day... something is up, but I don't know what.  This break from our routine, plus all the changes in the interior's appearance, has made me reluctant to enter spaces with just one exit.  Despite her unexplained absences, we have enjoyable one-on-one time just before she retires for the evening, so she is mostly forgiven.  And my meals are right on time, no complaints there.  Yet my instincts tell me to keep a sharp eye and have a planned escape route.

13 Dec 2023 - Culture is dampened, even pushed back, by chaos, but life persists.  The basics of existence float up from the subconscious, and become the points which define our path.  So here I am, trying to take in nourishment while the unfamiliar hovers nearby.  I am not exactly becoming unaware of their presence, but more tolerant... especially since nary a thing has lurched toward me or tried to lure me closer.  As long as they stay put and I can walk a wide circle around them, we have a workable truce.

12 Dec 2023 - With a downturn in temperatures, I hang out more and more, during work breaks, in the space pictured.  It is comfy, and is a frequent peep pass-through, so head pats can be expected.  The dent in the pillow behind my head is where I am currently choosing to snooze... but that could change.  There is a second pillow, with a slightly different viewpoint, and of course my towel.  I have even tried napping here, where I am sitting... but those nearby higher elevations appeal more to my cat-ness.  We are what we are.

11 Dec 2023 - I hope that you begin every morning with a stretch.  I wouldn't think of breaking into a skedaddle without stretching my body first.  Besides it feels so good to flex the back.  The shorter peep tells me that I am doing the cow pose.  Having never met this creature, perhaps it isn't prone to interloping or lives elsewhere, I can't comment on the statement's accuracy.  Just out of curiosity I would like to observe the thing that gave the movement its name... I might learn a few pointers.
