Me-usings and Me-emories
2 October 2020 - Curiosity is largely an asset: through exploration of the world one learns, by examining the thought process one can be better assured of truth. Most lower-order creatures merely react, guided by their hardwiring, eons in formation. "Why?" is a pesky question, one that bothers sleep and annoys dictators. But the obstinate desire to know the answer, when tempered with a cautionary brake, has served my kind well. Because a headlong rush is the downside of curiosity (cranial impact does not make one smarter). So an observer notes my hesitant step, my vacillation between do and don't, and concludes that I am timid, afraid of the world. I recall, from the last time that I was "out in the world", that there are things which should be given a wide berth... and that makes me a survivor.
