I've a feeling we're not in Kansas anymore

Me-ow-my-oh!

Me-usings and Me-emories

3 July 2017 - As you can see, I am a survivor.  After two long days of travel, I am back at my lake.  Already I have reaffirmed my usefulness by dispatching a meep that dared to crash our party.  Regular patrols will hopefully signal to the woodland riffraff that I won't tolerate their presence in the yard or house.  Meanwhile I am enjoying life without that Florida interloper,... although surely there was an easier way to shake his tail than traveling almost to the 44th latitude.  Other differences I have noticed are cooler temperatures (not good) and the smell of grass... which is well above my head in the immediate vicinity.  The squeeps in these parts are definitely smaller, and IMO more annoying with their querulous barking.  The important thing is that my peeps and I are under the same roof.

shock-still

Me-ow-my-oh!

Me-usings and Me-emories

29 June 2017 - Something is afoot.  Just to be on the safe side, I have claimed an out-of-the-way spot.  With the peeps' recent return (from strange places based on the smells of their shoes), I thought that we three could settle into a boring summer monotone.  The first hint was the suitcase that didn't get stowed... the shorter peep is usually very tidy about such things.  Then I spied her putting stuff inside it... definitely not good... but perhaps it doesn't involve me?  Now my personal door has been locked, and a feeling of entrapment is settling upon my head.  In my next life I am going to do an extensive interview with potential hosts:  if they exhibit one iota of wanderlust, I will move on to the next candidate.

off-the-scoff remarks

Me-ow-my-oh!

Me-usings and Me-emories

28 June 2017 - My peeps are 90% back to normal, so now I can totally relax.  Notice that I am still in the thick of things:  should the vibe change, I will be aware, and alert, pronto.  Given my job description I can't retreat to a dark, unvisited corner of the house for my snoozing.  But that limitation, as you can see, doesn't hinder my nap time.  "Do what you're good at", they say.  So stop casting aspersions, and find another pastime:  this isn't laziness, it is pure polished talent.

get away

Me-ow-my-oh!

Me-usings and Me-emories

27 June 2017 - Home bodies naturally prefer staycations:  no travel stress, no packing, no security checks.  The fact that there is no change in scenery doesn't bother us, because we overwhelmingly prefer the view out our window.  And with an iota of imagination we can imagine ourselves lounging on a tropical beach, palm trees in the background, all tinged with the rosy hues of a sunset.  Although I have never built a castle by the shore, I suspect that we cats would be good at it.  After all I have been playing in my own sand box since a mere kit.

Me-ow-my-oh!

Me-usings and Me-emories

26 June 2017 - What a difference twenty-four hours can make!  We three are up and mostly hitting on all cylinders.  With this return to normal (or what passes), I can once again resume my routine:  all is clear on the eastern front.  I have refreshed the peeps' memories, and I am pleased that they haven't forgotten my cues for faucet water, porch visits, head patting.  The older they get the more these prompts are needed.  What does the rest of my day hold?  More patrols, more naps, a bit of peep time... nothing too strenuous.  Although the outward signs suggest that I have thrown off my anxiety of the past two weeks, I know that pampering is still warranted.

fur-raught

Me-ow-my-oh!

Me-usings and Me-emories

25 June 2017 - I apologize for dropping off the planet.  One can't string a series of sentences together when one's thoughts are bouncing off the walls.  But I have purred myself back into a contented state:  my two peeps came creeping in last night, just barely recognizable… when was the last time they got any sleep?  The shorter one executed her bedtime routine in record time, and before I could do my three loops into a curled position, her eyes were closed.  The anxiety I experienced during their interminable absence has finally hit me:  I may not do anything remotely useful today (and neither may my peeps).

home is where you hang your cat

Me-ow-my-oh!

Me-usings and Me-emories

9 June 2017 - I am fairly certain that all the peep preparation I have observed lately does not involve me.  However, the implications are that I will be left to "hold down the fort", while they disappear to wherever for however long.  I don't approve of travel, theirs or mine, but I wasn't consulted obviously.  So I will be sitting alone at the back door, as pictured here, waiting to hear familiar footsteps coming up the steps.  Should I detect unfamiliar ones, I have several good hiding spots to which I can retreat.  To my mind this sensible behavior still falls under the category of "holding down the fort".
