variety isn't everyone's spice

Me-ow-my-oh!

Me-usings and Me-emories

8 February 2018 - My daily routine is admittedly predictable, but obviously I like it that way.  However I am not opposed to an occasional change-up.  Sometimes the shorter peep puts my breakfast elsewhere and in a different dish (she would have to provide the reason), and I am not so rigid as to forgo eating.  I might renege on principle if I thought that she was mocking my monotonous life... but that isn't how I read the situation.  Viewing something from a different angle can provide more details, more appreciation, and provoking more enjoyment of mealtime isn't a bad thing.

the savvy beast

Me-ow-my-oh!

Me-usings and Me-emories

7 February 2018 - Claws are virtually useless on a metal surface... otherwise I would skedaddle up this incline, and vamoose the critters scampering up the roof and in the rain gutter.  Clearly they have better traction that I do, but we are an equal match on the ground or tree trunk.  If their brains were larger, I am certain they would be taunting me from their beyond-my-reach perch.  Well, I will remember those faces, and show no mercy should we meet on a level playing field.  I am certain that, now a teenager, I have lived here longer than they:  "hey, get outta my yard".

6 February 2018 - After work, who doesn't want a bit of mindless downtime?  The shorter peep will tell you that I come inside, begging for attention.  That is possibly true.  My side of the story is a fond recollection of body massage and head-scratching and peep purring (reserved for beloved friends and mewling peeplets).  Who doesn't want that sort of personal validation?  Nourished and restored, I am ready for the remainder of my shift... although a power nap would be icing on the catwalk cake.

middle ground

Me-ow-my-oh!

Me-usings and Me-emories

5 February 2018 - Sometimes observation from a window ledge or screened porch is insufficient... and I lion-pride myself on a job well done.  So I do the walk.  Most outings are quite pleasant:  sunshine, fresh air, nuanced smells. There occasionally is a day when I long for another occupation, one that would keep my paws dry and my coat unruffled.  But then I have to be honest with myself:  I would not be happy with a job that ties me to the desktop.  So, like life, all work has pluses and minuses... just keep the tally out of the red and you'll be in a sustainable place.

mine the gap

Me-ow-my-oh!

Me-usings and Me-emories

4 February 2018 - I am flummoxed as to how to communicate an observation to my peeps:  they need to cut back the bushes around the perimeter of our house.  A ten-foot-wide clearcut would be ideal, removing any hideout for interloping beasts or peeps.  As the situation exists now, it is extremely easy to approach the domicile, especially from the sink hole, and crouch in the shrubbery... waiting for an opportunity.  My job, of course, is to patrol and deter... and success at my job requires extra vigilance as long as our outer walls are obscured.  My peeps seem to like running water... maybe they'll go for an encircling moat?

nip and tuckered

Me-ow-my-oh!

Me-usings and Me-emories

2 February 2018 - I didn't think this week would ever end!  So, yes, I am already in bed.  Many peeps can't wait for the Friday bell to sound... but then they head right back out the door, to overeat, overdrink, overdo.  This behavior would be understandable if they had just been released from a long, unpleasant captivity... but aren't we talking about their work life, the thing that pays their bills?  I won't judge, because clearly my work and I get along quite well.  Does that make me the exception?  That is a dispiriting thought to consider, but it does remind me to express my gratitude to Bastet.

moonlighting

Me-ow-my-oh!

Me-usings and Me-emories

1 February 2018 - Did you gape at last night's moon?  My midnight walk-about was so illuminated, even my peeps could have done the route without stumbling.  The only downside to nights with copious moonlight is that I don't get much sleep... I'll have to try extra hard today to catch up on my rest.  Wouldn't we all like to have that assignment?!  Patrolling from a window ledge is one way to conserve energy; doing so with one eye shut also racks up points.  Obviously I know how to pamper a tired body (and to not feel guilty doing so).
