another four-letter word

Me-ow-my-oh!

Me-usings and Me-emories

14 April 2014 - I am fairly certain that I was misunderstood.  Just because I backed off the tabletop in reaction to this thing's lunge toward me, doesn't mean that I was frightened.  Certainly there was an element of surprise to be napping one minute, then being jolted awake.  But my primary response was one of incredulity:  surely the shorter peep is not suggesting that a house guest should help with the housekeeping.  And it's not like I don't pull more than my weight around this place.  I won't forget her insinuation any time soon.  She may think that elephants have long memories.

11 April 2014 - This photograph could be me posing at the base of the Colossus of Rhodes, except 1) that seventh wonder of the world toppled in the 226 BCE earthquake, and 2) the proportions aren't to scale.  But all that seems to be required for rumor to become truth is three utterances of a baseless statement.  So reread that initial clause twice more, and my staycation will become a Greek cruise.  Just think of all the money you helped me save.

10 April 2014 - Danger is all in the eye of the beholder.  I almost said "in the mind", but as the processor of all our sensory input that would be true for whatever subject, and I don't want to waste space on tautologies.  I would much rather use that space for a lie-down.  That I am hovering on a second-story ledge doesn't give me any gray hairs, for it is a great vantage point, a place to survey my kingdom.  Unlike other favorite resting places of mine, this one has never been usurped by peeps.  Whether or not this avoidance is due to less than steady nerves on their part I can't say.  However the taller peep does have quite a bit of gray on the top.

Me-usings and Me-emories

8 April 2014 - Today's kernel of thought is the balance of vocation and recreation, the work-versus-play American dilemma.  It is my understanding that if I somehow abracadabra-ed into un chat, that I could lay around for the entire month of August...which isn't that far from the truth now.  But my ramblings of late have painted a picture of a hard worker, so I thought a change-up would be appreciated (and believed).  My idea of play doesn't require much in the way of props or preparation:  occasionally I am overtaken by kit spontaneity, and then it just as quickly leaves me alone.

7 April 2014 - The picture at the right serves two purposes:  1)  it offers further documentation that I really am kept waiting an inordinate amount of time (see yesterday's post for the full back-story), and 2) it documents my untiring and vigilant securing of this domicile.  Perhaps my work will be better appreciated now that I actually cornered an intruder in the living room.  The taller peep was dubious that there really was something hiding behind/under the piano, but the shorter peep, who had witnessed my discovery and called in reinforcements, took the flashlight and located >it< stretched out in the back of the piano...it being a young snake, black with white longitudinal stripes, a tad more than two feet in length and the thickness of a pencil (a ribbon snake perhaps).  What she uttered next is worthy of a needlepoint project (and makes my eyes grow moist):  "Trust the cat," she said.

a little help, please

Me-ow-my-oh!

Me-usings and Me-emories

6 April 2014 - It is fortunate that I have nine lives, because several of those are spent waiting.  I am not a complainer, am not demanding (hey, this is my story), and very accommodating...which might explain why I am often left behind in darkened rooms or "discovered" when the peep flips on the light switch.  Yes, I have been counting the minutes until someone, anyone, notices that I am hanging by the sink, not because I like to see me reflected into infinity, but because I am thirsty.  And yes, that is a bowl of water, but the liquid in that bowl is hours old and there is a dark hair floating on top.  You realize that life can't manage (nor will it get down from this counter) without water.

5 April 2014 - I am going to start a rumor:  Florida also is home to Big Foot.  But that is what a little perspective will do to your perception.  I can assure you that my head is much larger than my  paws.  And don't get complacent on me, thinking that knowledge acquired is knowledge in the bank.  Like money, it too can disappear.  All the science and mathematics churned out by the BCE Greeks had to be rediscovered in the European Renaissance.  In fact using perspective in paintings was considered "unnatural" in 15th-century what-is-now Italy, the populace preferring the flat depiction of people and scenes as seen in ancient Egyptian art.  However I do think that the ancient Egyptians did a fine rendering of cats.
