Me-usings and Me-emories

18 Jan 2024 - I am that unmoving lump, seen to the right.  If I had tucked my tail across my nose, you wouldn't have noticed me.  Perhaps I'm trying to hide from the chilly temperatures... but, alas, they found me.  There are things in this world that can't be altered, not even in a cat's nine lives, and these distasteful obstructions to my happiness must be endured while keeping a spark of hope alive in the warmest part of my body.  If one can customize dreams, the snoozing me would love to be basking on a hot deck, Mr. Sol liquifying my bones.  Imagine that!

afresh

Shamus on view

Me-usings and Me-emories

17 Jan 2024 - Nature can play cruel tricks on its inhabitants:  illuminated by sunlight our domicile is still cold.  How can there be fire with little heat?  I feel like complaining, but to whom should I grouse?  My fur coat is a Florida weight, doing the job most days without being cumbersome... but it is inadequate for these temperature dips.  I will need to put some zip into my work rounds and pay repeated visits to the local oracle.  What I really need is a lap!

Me-usings and Me-emories

16 Jan 2024 - This cat doesn't enjoy being in the spotlight.  When all eyes are upon me, I get a tad nervous... stage fright perhaps.  I don't think of myself as entertaining (I like being dull), but yet I'm aware that videos of my kind acting silly (am I the same species??) are immensely popular.  This kitto won't be breaking into song and dance.  I skipped the lesson on pas de chats, and a cat's full voice requires getting used to... but then it is meant to be intimidating.  I do my job well, so don't expect me to also be the house clown.

Me-usings and Me-emories

15 Jan 2024 - We cats are physically unable to tie ourselves in knots, but when compared to my two creaky peeps, I am quite flexible.  Not that my supple body is foremost in my thoughts:  I do what I do without giving the particulars much thought.  If one wants to channel clumsiness, just consciously process what it takes to, for example, walk.  Yes, such things are best left to muscle memory.  Why do I stretch?  Probably because it feels good, especially after a comfy nap... but this is just an after-the-fact thought, a reply to your question that might not be the answer.

Me-usings and Me-emories

14 Jan 2024 - When Mr. Sol fails me, I visit the local oracle.  I have tried to put words to her low hiss, but mostly it isn't the advice I'm seeking but her warm breath.  I step into the circle, back to (one shouldn't stare at the divine), and let the breeze ruffle my fur.  The air, even the floor, in her vicinity, defies the chill and offers my cold paws a delightful place to pause.  She asks little of me in return (what could I possibly leave at the altar but kibble?)... but I gratefully offer a bit of heart-felt appreciation.

"I'm MEL-ting"

Shamus on view

Me-usings and Me-emories

13 Jan 2024 - I am not a cube of sugar (or pillar of salt) that dissolves in liquid, but even so I don't care to be sopping wet.  A few rain sprinkles are no big deal, but I wouldn't tolerate a baptism.  Yesterday's time on my personal screened porch was odd, in that I could feel the moisture around my body but I couldn't see individual droplets.  The air was heavy, even thick, and I came back into the domicile damp from its contact.  It wasn't pleasant nor unpleasant, just unusual.  Even the views from the porch were milky, the colors softened, sounds muted.  At least you can still see that I'm a tuxedo cat.

Shamus on view

Me-usings and Me-emories

12 Jan 2024 - Stealth and shadows are natural partners:  I myself use these darkened spots when I am undercover, and likewise do the interlopers.  That a cat's eyesight functions well in dim light is a true asset... how else could I spot the tiny creatures (so small they don't warrant a designation) that lurk here, in areas not disturbed by the peeps... but I have no qualms about upsetting their utopias.  Some of them are tasty morsels, others are just fun to chase.  I get the job done.
