dressed to kill?

Me-ow-my-oh!

Me-usings and Me-emories

8 February 2015 - Did someone tie a white bib around my neck?  Or is it an oversized, toothless cartoon of a grin?  My chest marking certainly makes it difficult to blend into the darkness.  What landscape did we tuxedos evolve for?  Life among the penguins?  My imagination falls short of an answer, but we are always ready, should formal attire be on the invitation.

under wraps

Me-ow-my-oh!

Me-usings and Me-emories

7 February 2015 - It is a sad moment when your hiding place gives you up.  One of the ways that I stay abreast of what is happening, what might be happening, here at home is to be a quiet observer.  And certainly what transpires when I am listening, unbeknownst to the peeps, is not the same as when they know I am present.  So it behooves me to have a few choice spots that go unnoticed by them.  But the shorter peep, perhaps because she is shorter, spotted me this morning...and immediately I became the topic of conversation, which was not the outcome desired at all.

Me-ow-my-oh!

Me-usings and Me-emories

6 February 2015 - Although I try to put on a happy face, I am not always chipper.  Sometimes I blame the weather, other days, an unwise food selection, some days, the cause is unclear...but I have found that a change in perspective often helps  lift my spirits.  It is a balancing act between light and dark, but these opposites can and do complement one another.  That is why the peeps often find me perched on a high place, poised between the sun and its shadow.

Me-usings and Me-emories

5 February 2015 - I confess that my interest in the light box is typically restricted to the associated lap possibilities.  However, last night's display featured creatures that I certainly have not seen in our back yard.  Long, knobby legs and jaws that permitted sideways chewing...truly an odd mishmash of parts.  So my innate curiosity had me riveted to a front row seat to observe and record details, should I ever come upon this sight in the woods.  I didn't particularly approve of the implied relationship between them and peeps (whose idea was it to bedeck them with fringed rugs?), but if consensual, it is none of my business.

your I's are getting heavy

Me-ow-my-oh!

Me-usings and Me-emories

3 February 2015 - We cats have our high-strung moments, epitomized by an arched back and fur standing on end, but we also know in our bones how to relax.  I suppose there is a cousin out there who is perpetually anxious, poor bloke, but the rest of us are a disappointment to the pharmaceutical companies.  There was that one time when the peeps boarded me with the vet for a week...I still have emotional scars from that trauma.  But after a few hours back in the peace and quiet of my domicile, my pupils returned to their normal diameter, and that night I slept like a kitten.

2 February 2015 - Envy is on the no-no list, so it may not surprise anyone how many different synonyms it has.  The traditionalist in me likes "covetousness", from Latin cupiditas (and Valentine's Day is just around the corner), but my literary side is partial to "green-eyed monster".  That image alone should be sufficient deterrent.  Why, exactly, is it that having one's needs met doesn't douse the desire for more?  Peeps are especially prone to discontent, and are none the happier for it.  We cats live much simpler lives...but should you be getting any unseemly ideas, "get your own lap".

Me-usings and Me-emories

1 February 2015 - Curiosity and sure-footedness are a helpful combination...otherwise nine lives would quickly be exhausted.  That I am nonchalantly walking a ledge twelve feet above the floor doesn't even register.  Just remember what happens when you become conscious of walking up/down a stair:  some things have to be left on automatic pilot.  I can't see where I am placing my back paws (something you peeps have zero experience with), yet they track along without falter.  Notice in this picture that I don't even require the full width...why, it's like walking down easy street.
