humdrum

18 Aug 2025 - Mr. Sol can certainly brighten the day and highlight the greens that crowd our domicile on three sides.  All those trees just invite interlopers to perch or scamper across, which is why I keep an eye on the woods.  Although the branches could be a staging area for a full-on assault, I haven't seen anything so organized, mostly foraging or traveling from one spot to another.  I am not one of those knuckleheads who longs for action... I am quite content to remain in the background.

17 Aug 2025 - We cats are of the opinion that everyone is interested in what we think.  Why else would countless peeps watch videos of our shenanigans??  If the shorter peep were quick enough to record one of my skedaddles, not especially rare but difficult to predict when the notion will strike, my views would go through the roof... or so I speculate, because such footage doesn't exist.  And I am very comfortable not being famous, since adulation from strangers is not something that I would desire.

16 Aug 2025 - The next best thing to having a peep lap available for a snooze, is to claim the warm spot where she was sitting.  As you know we cats love the heat, so even at the end of a hot day I am not averse to more warmth.  And not to be predictable, midday you might spot me at the other end, curled up, one eye and both ears tuned in to what's happening on my personal screened deck.  But after Mr. Sol has retired, my two peeps often can be found here... so naturally I schedule a work break in their vicinity.  It doesn't hurt to act (notice I didn't say "be") sociable.

15 Aug 2025 - Sometimes after my post-breakfast brushing I feel the need to continue my grooming.  With many steps to take in a day's time I must take care of my paws (and I certainly wouldn't agree to anyone else doing the pedicure).  Trying to conduct a thorough patrol with a hangnail or sand between my claws is at the very least distracting... just what the interlopers are wishing for.  So a little time spent in preventive maintenance pays off later, when a sprint or leap is demanded.  My naps are untroubled when I know that I am ready for whatever comes.

14 Aug 2025 - I could be the cat on the hearth, except there is no need for a fire today (and anyway, according to my peeps, there is a fire ban in effect).  But a cat has an unconscious desire to be higher than his surroundings, and that "hearth" does elevate me above the deck, if only slightly.  The paw under my head suggests that a pillow would have been a nice addition (hear that, peeps), but I did manage a restorative nap while keeping my ears alert to any suspicious interloper activity.

too much

13 Aug 2025 - This photo captures my thoughts on the infernal deck portal:  I tolerate it, even pass through its gate (if held open by a helpful peep), but I do not like it.  My peeps find it amusing that I will scurry in and out on their heels, rather than deign to use it for passage.  What can I say?  I don't trust it, I don't like its smell or its weight upon my body.  Obviously Bastet sees no reason to intervene in my plight, so I must create my own solutions.

12 Aug 2025 - The quiet of early morning calls attention to any interlopers stirring... which is why I visit my personal screened deck as soon as its portal is open.  It isn't unusual to spot a cheep as it hurries from one rock to another, in search of any seeds that have fallen to the ground.  And the squeep likes to be the first one at the replenished feeder.  There are several tiny, tiny beeps that frequent this area and are constantly squabbling over whose territory it is.  But obviously this spot belongs to me.
