7 Aug 2024 - Emotions and logic are often in conflict:  part of me really wants to be out on my personal screened deck, patrolling for interlopers, and part of me comments, "Have you lost your squeaky toy?  It is nasty out there."  Fortunately the shorter peep decided the argument by keeping the door closed.  But I can still peer through this portal, and glare at anything brave/daft enough to venture forth.  Both sides of me agree that we are ready for Mr. Sol's return.

6 Aug 2024 - Lest you get the wrong impression, on top of all my other duties I am still the office manager.  Since both peeps spend time at their desks, so must I supervise... not that I am a micromanager, for they very well know what they are doing.  During times of stress or frustration, I provide a back to stroke and a head to pat... anything to be helpful.  I'd even fetch a cup of coffee if I had an opposable thumb (and were a bit taller).  Although the term isn't used in my contract, I am a facilitator... and having admitted to such, I need to take a thorough bath.

5 Aug 2024 - I have lots of patience... I just don't like using it.  The shorter peep knows our morning routine:  I expect to be brushed after breakfast... so why am I still waiting.  But the day has started with a series of hitches:  I had just returned from gathering recon from my personal screened deck, when a beep thumped into the glass and flopped onto the boards.  Both of us hurried to investigate, but the shorter peep beat me (her legs are longer) and then shut the door (!), putting a barrier between us and the downed beep.  There was no persuading her to reopen it, so I sat as close as I could until it had recovered its senses and flew away:  another assault thwarted!

4 Aug 2024 - There are many things to consider when selecting a spot to settle.  Some of the criteria I can't even name, as they are more felt than known.  But clearly having good sight lines is critical, and high marks are awarded if I can keep watch over both the interlopers and my peeps.  But the el primo place is one that goes unnoticed, rendering me if not invisible then dismissible.  Burrowing beneath pillows is a great way to hide, but it makes for lousy reconnaissance.

3 Aug 2024 - The shorter peep can be quite entertaining.  Yesterday she wandered through the house, out on my personal screened deck, and leaned over the railing to scan the ground below.  It was her calling my name that finally clued me in:  she was looking for me!  It is true that I didn't answer back, but at this point I wanted to see how long the hunt would persist.  Finally, when she turned to come back in our domicile, she spotted me... where I had been the entire time.

2 Aug 2024 - Cats aren't particular about where they choose to bathe.  The more gregarious of my kind have been known to take center stage for the ritual.  The shyer ones, moi being a prime example, don't particularly care to draw attention to ourselves, regardless of what we're up to, and pick a more out-of-the-way spot.  I am partial to the pictured room, once summer temperatures have arrived, for a midday nap.  So what could be better than a cleanup just steps away from where I can tidily snooze.

1 Aug 2024 - One should take advantage of an opportunity, if only because of its random occurrence.  I have lived sufficiently long to know that, loath as I am to admit, toasty weather is short-lived.  On these too-few beautiful days I spend a good bit of my time on my personal screened deck... sometimes I am even joined by the peeps, who seem to enjoy eating their late-afternoon meals al fresco.  I am always delighted to dine wherever, but it is extra nice when my dish offers a view of the surrounding yard and adjacent lake.
