how odd

Shamus on view

Me-usings and Me-emories

18 Jul 2024 - Sometimes I manage to surprise my peeps... which they seem to enjoy, at least they often remark upon my "unusual" behavior.  Of course I don't categorize my actions that way... truthfully I don't feel a need to sort them into bins.  What prompted me to hop on this particular ledge, one that I can't recall ever using?  Possibly I was feeling the need to escape (this event occurring during the dim-deep visit), but also to keep a wary eye on the situation.  Part of the peep's exclamation was probably due to the fact that I'm not a jumper... nevertheless I got up there somehow without assistance.  The mysterious air becomes me.

laid back

Shamus on view

Me-usings and Me-emories

17 Jul 2024 - I have noticed that my peeps enjoy sitting around plates newly emptied, relaxing, chatting, gazing across the lake.  We cats have better things to do with our time.  Once we have eaten our fill, we are elsewhere... perhaps washing up or walking the beat or whatever else strikes our fancy.  Of course I am not the one who prepares my kibble, nor am I the one to pick up the dirty dish afterwards (no opposable thumbs)... so maybe the peep delay is more about not being eager to do the post-meal tasks?

out of the blue

Shamus on view

Me-usings and Me-emories

16 Jul 2024 - To allay concerns about my recent dim-deep encounter, I wanted to share a picture of me reclaiming the personal screened deck.  The reclaiming includes eradicating (or at least covering over) all those dim-deep smells, which are particularly foul to this cat's nose.  But things have been quickly returned to a satisfactory condition, allowing me to focus on the local interlopers.  I don't want to admit it (it wouldn't be the sort of thing I'd imagine), but the dim-deep's rampage through the yard seems to have dispersed the squeeps... temporarily.

thumping great

15 Jul 2024 - In case you doubt my story, here is a picture of the dim-deep that came out of the lake.  Yikes, the thing is big!  My interaction with this massive interloper was strictly through my eardrums, as I listened to him vocalize (a cower-inducing noise to anything smaller) and rampage through the yard.  Way larger than anything mentioned in the job's fine-print, it was not my responsibility to do anything but survive its "visit".  And I did:  eventually the domicile returned to its soothing quiet, and I crept out to assess the damage and reclaim my territory.

may I come in?

Shamus on view

Me-usings and Me-emories

14 Jul 2024 - Most of the time it is just myself and the two peeps, so seldom is this back room used... which for me is its appeal.  Quiet, cool, way out-of-the-way... I am guaranteed a tranquil snooze.  Eventually the shorter peep wonders where I am, and starts looking in all the usual places (this one being far down the list).  It is both gratifying (that she is worried) and annoying (that my sleep is interrupted), but there is nothing productive that can be done once I'm spotted except grin for the camera.

roll the dicey

Shamus on view

Me-usings and Me-emories

13 Jul 2024 - The best hiding spot is one known only to the user.  Far back in second place is a space too small for the scarier (i.e., larger) interlopers to enter.  The problem with this second sort is that the hider must mightily wrestle with his brain-stem fears... otherwise he would bolt, fleeing right into the enemy's territory.  It is a dilemma, the perils lessened only by the fact that I've been found by the shorter peep, who on all fours (not her quickest stance) is peeping at me.  Okay, I can deal with that.

straining at the feast

Shamus on view

Me-usings and Me-emories

12 Jul 2024 - I won't say that I have never been atop this table... but certainly not while a peep was watching! However it is a staging area for many things, one of which is my breakfast, so naturally I am curious to see how far along the morning process is.  As is often the case I am ready long before the anticipated thing is... waiting is the cross I must bear.  Sometimes I have even managed to squeeze in a deck patrol without missing the arrival of my meal... because sometimes calmly sitting on my haunches is more than I can handle.
