do I have to?

Me-usings and Me-emories

20 Sep 2026 - What a nice surprise to see Mr. Sol first thing this morning!  I suppose I really should begin my day, despite the persistent chill.  There is no doubt that the interlopers are stirring... didn't I just hear the scampering of feet on the roof overhead?!  Yes, a walk with a good pace will (eventually) warm me up, work out the kinks, and elevate my mood for what lies ahead.  But inertia is a powerful force, so you'll understand why I struggle to get started.

19 Sep 2026 - Brrrr... the hinterland has turned cold.  Even the efforts by Mr. Sol are inadequate for this cat, of course he gets a later and later start each day.  The shorter peep and I aren't eager to leave the bed's warmth, but neither is the world waiting for us.  Were it not for the interloper threat, I would remain curled up somewhere.  However that is wishful thinking because the ne'er-do-wells number many and are driven by desperation.  My plan is to do a bit of work, huddle, do a bit of work... and hope that my personal sun room eventually lives up to its name.

watch power

18 Sep 2026 - My rounds obviously include the office space, but sometimes I do a more thorough investigation, hopping up and peering behind the facades.  I'm not sure what about this arrangement fascinates my peeps, but they do spend a lot of time here.  I'm not complaining, as it lessens the competition for those comfy cushions and it gives me a sure-thing lap if companionship/warmth is needed.  I have been known to pull an all-nighter here, mainly for reasons of deterring interlopers.  Like me, these trespassers have noticed that the tools of business emit heat... and there is a shortage at the moment.

keep a move on

Me-usings and Me-emories

17 Sep 2026 - When the portal to my personal screened deck is only partially open, I know not to expect balmy temperatures out there.  However, sometimes lately the portal never opens, so access is appreciated, even without Mr. Sol's benevolence.  I will slip in and out, making my rounds, treating cold paws with a pillow rest, then moving on.  There is much area to patrol, and to thoroughly investigate every cranny takes time.  But that I have, nine lives' worth.  High roads, low roads, seldom tracing a straight line, I amble through the house... occasionally breaking into a canter, who knows why?

top cat

Shamus on view

Me-usings and Me-emories

16 Sep 2026 - There are many advantages to being a cat (not that I can imagine being anything else).  For example, I am often able to take a much shorter route between two points:  where my two peeps have to walk around the furniture, I can walk over or under the barrier.  And definitely my fast-twitch reactions are quicker than theirs, and in a short race they won't best my sprint.  From what I can observe, my life is quieter than theirs (oh, my, the noisy company they invite into our domicile), probably simpler... but that is all very relative and biased.  It is difficult to be objective when one has divine ancestors.

who goes there?

Shamus on view

Me-usings and Me-emories

15 Sep 2026 - My ears can clearly hear scratching in that corner, a paw's reach away, but my eyes detect nothing.  Something out there is trying to get in here, I suspect, and I mustn't allow that to occur.  It is that time of year, when Mr. Sol falls down on the job, and interlopers are in search of a warmer option.  I sympathize, as I definitely don't like to be cold, but foremost are my responsibilities to keep the domicile free of ne'er-do-wells.  So I keep my vigil, while making quick rounds of the remaining rooms.  When there is only one of me (and I like it that way) and many access points, the job is a full-time juggling act.

is it over?

Shamus on view

Me-usings and Me-emories

14 Sep 2026 - The roof bombardment has abated, possibly due to the depletion of weapons (rather than a change of heart by the interlopers).  Whatever the reason, we are all relieved to no longer be under attack... I am sufficiently jumpy without further incitement.  Nonetheless I am keeping a steady eye on the domicile portals, lest something attempt a breach as we exhale a sigh.  If I were the enemy, I would favor such a time, when the other side is exhausted and hoping the lull might signal the end.  We cats know there is never an end, only a pause.
