peeking tom

Me-ow-my-oh!

Me-usings and Me-emories

3 October 2015 - There is a not-subtle difference between hiding and cowering.  This photo is an example of the former, as in "hide and seek".  The shorter peep and I were having a bit of fun last night with "cat" toys...although truthfully she seems to enjoy them far more than I.  The wildness in me likes to be stealthy, to stalk and pounce, and these long curtains are the nearest thing I have at hand to tall savannah grass.  With head to the ground, I can watch the desired thing approach and then, at the optimal moment,  spring upon the unsuspecting.  It really is a good cardiovascular workout.

2 October 2015 - I trust that you are experiencing the proper awe for my awesome nimbus.  It is just an expression of my undeniable godhead.  I have retreated to this height to be alone with my thoughts.  Commoners assume that we sages on the mount are there to answer their questions, to guide their wandering feet.  Actually these interruptions just irk us.  Isn't it clear to anyone with three neurons that we have removed ourselves from society to escape the rabble?  You confused souls are welcome to clamour to the top of a peak in search of enlightenment...just don't pick my mountain.

grumble, grumble

Me-ow-my-oh!

Me-usings and Me-emories

1 October 2015 - Here is hard evidence that I am not paranoid.  For months now I have had to test the wind, glance over my shoulder, tread cautiously...all because of this intruder.  He has clearly made himself at home, my home, brazenly stretching out on the front walk.  He has sized my peeps up for the softies that they are, and meows pitifully at the back door...and they kindly respond with a bowl of kibbles, my kibbles.  What else of mine will I be asked to share??  The encroacher knows my opinion of him:  the welcome mat has been removed.

how in the world?

Me-ow-my-oh!

Me-usings and Me-emories

30 September 2015 - I elect to spend the majority of my time inside, but that doesn't mean that I have left the jungle.  I have witnessed all manner of wildlife in my abode, most of which are desperately trying to recall how they got in.  I admit that so far nothing larger than me has been discovered inside...but that is big enough, especially given the four walls have lulled my peeps into a sense of security.  Peep feet can be inches away from the mole beneath the sofa; a meal can be enjoyed while a rat snake hides in the piano, etcetera, etcetera.  The peeps would be totally unaware were it not for my bringing these things to their attention.

today's outlook

Me-ow-my-oh!

Me-usings and Me-emories

29 September 2015 - Every now and then I deem it safe to go outside.  Between heavy rains and that irritating trespasser, I haven't had many opportunities since returning from the hinterland.  I began my life in a bit of urban green space, where the dangers are of a different sort but nevertheless quite real.  I don't have any clear memories of that time, just stories that my peeps tell.  My dicey origins gave me a healthy distrust of "out there", yet a fascination as well.  I like to think that that dichotomy serves me well...just because I have nine lives doesn't mean that I should waste 'em.

all right, all right, I'm awake

Me-ow-my-oh!

Me-usings and Me-emories

28 September 2015 - After a leisurely weekend, Mondays can be a startling reality.  One can avoid the jolt to the system by working Saturday and Sunday...but who in his right mind would do that?  There are circumstances which make such a life necessary;  fortunately I am a trust-fund cat (I trust that my peeps will continue to fund my modest lifestyle).  Even so I can't escape the ramped morning, as the taller peep bolts off to his other office and the shorter peep picks up the pieces.  Maybe I should just close my eyes.

down for the count

Me-ow-my-oh!

Me-usings and Me-emories

27 September 2015 - Aaah, the weekend!  Not that my schedule demarcates weekend from work week, but I do pick up my peeps' vibes.  Sunday morning is observed in a totally different way from that of, say, Wednesday.  I can really groove on this "day of rest" idea, although I see no reason to restrict myself to just one twenty-four hour period... why not two or three?  I do recognize there should be a few days of non-rest, just so one can look forward to and savor that "aaah" experience.
